If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would you do

KL700

Lieutenant
If you could get sent back in time to (seriously or humorously) fix something from either
in history, in your personal life, or someone else's, what would it be for and why, if you
had to ?

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

I'd go back to 1997 and tell my younger self to quit the car wash job at the end of the Summer. Other than that, I wouldn't change anything else.

I would have never moved 2 years ago for that job that never worked out. It ate up my entire savings and destroyed my credit, and when it was all done I just ended up moving back here to my old job.

That said, a lot of good things have happened this year that never would have happened had I not moved, so who knows?

Nothing. Science fiction has taught me you should never screw around with the past.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

^This. Mess with one little thing from the past and lots of great things in the present may never happen.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

Just ask Ashton Kutcher!

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

There are some things it would be nice to fix, like 9/11, but how do you do that without getting yourself locked up as a conspirator? And any fix would have to be on the order of mitigation, like getting people out of the buildings----you can't risk stopping the event entirely or the changes to the timeline become too significant to predict at all.

Walk into a major bookie's in April 1912.

Put every penny I have on a bet that the brand new ocean liner that everybody knows is sink-proof will actually sink, on its first voyage, as a result of an iceberg collision. The odds would be incredibly huge.

After cleaning out the bookie's, I'd open a swiss bank account and deposit the money there.

After returning to 2011 the interest on the money would be enough to buy some small countries.

I would tell myself to grow up and call her back. (mid fall, 1993)

To quote the great Everyman Engineer O'Brian "I hate temporal mechanics!"

You don't warn anyone. In the early morning hours, travel to a pay phone a distance from your home and call in a bomb threat to the towers. The loss of life will be minimized, but the towers will still be attacked, and the resultant military action would probably still occur.

Of course all those surviving people will domino effect across a decade messing up the lives of the survivors and their families.

I presume you are in the North?

Personally I would travel to 1909 tell Ismay not to skint on the Lifeboats, and tell Thomas Andrews to make sure the bulkheads are sealed to the top of the deck. Also it might be an idea to stop them using inferior steel.

Then start a campaign for an international Ice patrol to find Ice Bergs.

If you want to make money just play on the stock market.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

I would splurge on the $500, go to Bermuda for the day, and surprise my sister at her wedding.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

Stand on the grassy knoll in Dallas and see just where them shots came from

:wtf:

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

I would go back to 1950, when my house was built, and knock some sense into the builders.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

I'd go back in time and kill Ashton Kutcher.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

If I had known what my old job in Maryland would be like before I moved out here 5 years ago, I wouldn't have taken it.

But I wouldn't have met my wife...

If you want to make money, you go back with the winning lottery numbers on a week when it was a huge rollover pot.

If we're talking betting on stuff, I'd go back to the start of the 98/99 English football season and put every penny I could scrape together on Manchester United winning the treble (Premier League, FA Cup & Champions League). I bet the odds on that at the start of the season were astronomical.

Re: If you had to get sent back in time to fix something, what would yo

if you wanna stop 9/11 go back to about 7am and call in bomb threats for the airports the planes left from. stop the planes getting hijacked and maybe even the terrorists caught.

in my personal life, either go back to '02 and tell myself not to go out with my ex or go back to tell myself to take that job at the supermarket and leave the newsagents. (which would also achieve the same objective of the first one)

that or a quick jaunt back to january and put money on Andy Carroll moving to Liverpool, Torres moving to Chelsea and Carroll scoring for Liverpool before Torres scored for Chelsea.
