Social Networking

I kept getting on and off of Facebook only to keep in touch with certain friends who don't live here anymore. However, after some time, I keep removing my profile because I find the site, well, honestly, to be quite boring. The site does not have many good games to play, and I feel like sometimes people share way to much personal information on the site. I've actually been on there like 3 or 4 times already, and removed my profile once more. I dunno, I guess I feel like Facebook is kids stuff and I did that kind of stuff as a kid with my Commodore 64. Not sure if I'm ever going to go back to facebook :)

Use it for the people that you want to keep in touch with, and only use it to keep in touch with them. Easy.

Just because you're a member of Facebook doesn't mean you need to use it all the time. It seems kind of silly to keep canceling your account only to open a new one later.

Well I'm probably not going to go back again, and I didn't think I would before, but I did just to keep in touch with some friends. But-- the site-- it's just boring to me! :) I cannot fathom the reason why every on the Internet has to have a link to facebook either... I don't use social networking for my blog and I still get decent traffic.

I think you're missing the point of Facebook. It's not intended to be a form of entertainment. It's supposed to help you keep in touch with people. The games and things are just extra things you can do with the site, but they're not what the site it for.

I glance at Facebook for maybe 2 minutes, read up on all my friends' updates, and then I leave.

I use Facebook to keep in touch with my friends and relatives. It was very useful for being able to follow what was happening to my niece during the Brisbane Floods. We were able to know she had made it out safely and she later posted photos of the damage done to her house.

I also like to follow certain pages. My favourite is that of Sirocco Kakapo. Sirocco is one of only 131 kakapo in the world and he is the Spokesbird for Conservation in New Zealand. He is a superstar and he knows it. He is currently on a tour of a couple of New Zealand cities and it is wonderful to see what the BGBOL (Big Green Budgie of Love) is up to each day.

I also like Zachary Quinto's page.

I find FB too confusing to use as a way to communicate with friends, however I have two friends who won't use anything else, so I have to use FB to 'speak' to them.

Me neither. I downloaded a plugin for Chrome that is supposed to remove all Facebook and Twitter links from sites, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Sites like The Huffington Post have at least 100 Facebook links on every page! Okay, I exaggerate. Not by much though. Why does every single thing need to have a Like on Facebook link underneath?

I hardly ever sign into my FB. I go there from time to time when a friend writes me there. They must have taken notice, because I am getting "Get back into Facebook" spam every few days.

I'm sure they are reeeaaaaly hurting without my business! :p

At the moment, I can't go without Facebook for more than a day or so. I use it to stay in touch with people (e.g. those across the pond, some of them TBBSers), but also to talk with my (ex-)classmates.

Also, it's basically a free dating site (and yes, I also use paid dating sites, but more options never hurt). My female classmates are even flirtier on FB than in RL. Well, some of them.

I use FB to easily communicate with people I might not otherwise be able to talk to. Lots of people don't have a clue how to use other things, or are confused by email and telephones and stairs. Facebook is the great equalizer. Much like Geico, it's so easy a caveman can do it.

The main focus of facebook for me, is to keep in contract with friends and family, and also find information about science fiction conventions in Australia. I play the odd game now and then.

I'm writing an APP that'll let you uninstall facebook from Droid phones, because you can't uninstall it normally

I've noticed that there are people that are obsessed with their social networking sites and tend to check them multiple times a day.

But their obsession is absolutely dwarfed by another group of people that are completely taken with announcing that they don't use Facebook and don't understand the appeal and think that it's silly. Those people go on and on and on about it. They seem to be the ones who are truly obsessed.

Nowadays I spend more time playing Angry Birds on my mobile device than checking FB updates.

At the most, I check FB a few minutes every day to post pics, check in at places, or send birthday greetings. I hardly ever post my rants anymore. I do use Twitter but with a different range of audience.

TrekBBS itself is the closest I ever get to social networking. :D

Snap.....and i have now idea what tweeter is about either.....im sure most people dont really want to know my daily bowl moving habits becuse thats about as exciting as it gets.

Oh and just in case you are intrested......White bread bungs me up, i love it, but i pay the price later on.

This. It's like complaining "the telephone is fine for talking with distant friends, but the device itself? It's boring!" Well, duh. The point is what you use it for.
