Original, or Remastered?

Original. No need to repeat reasons posted on other versions of this same thread.
I will note again though, I find it interesting that it seems to viscerally bother some people that others like the original better.

I LOVE THE ORIGINALS!!! For there nostalgic quality and for the memories of when i watched them as a kid.

But....

I LOVE THE REMASTERED!!! Because of the mattes and the fx- starship shots that i always thought TOS deserved!

I'll take CGI over matte paintings any day.

You realize the original mattes were still there? Just cleaned up and extended with CGI.

I suspected that was the case but I wasn't sure. I still prefer the CGI enhanced mattes over the originals though. If anything, Remastered Trek didn't go far enough. Newer isn't always better, but more often then not, it is.

I tend to agree, maybe if they had the time viewscreens and more roto work could have been done. Also if they produced ENT era FX (which were consciously avoided) we'd probably have fewer whiners.

The remastered every time. They are a thing of beauty and show how the series would have looked if the tech had exsisted. The Enterprise is something to behold, wonderful new shots. I was blown away when I first saw them.

I didn't care for the CG design of the planet-killer either. I've seen better done by CG hobbyists.

I don't say that often, much as I admire a lot of the CG you do see online.

"The Doomsday Machine" in general was one of the Remastered episodes that disappointed me. It's hard to say which was my favorite - probably "The Menagerie" or "Amok Time." I admired what they did on COTEOF but it was mostly subtle clean-up and corrections of things like matte lines, etc, and didn't make a distinct difference in the experience of watching it.

I think we all would have liked to have seen a design from one of the fan inspired projects, but they went with something closer to the original, but upgraded. I understand their reasoning though in terms of the intricate planning that went into the new visuals for the episode (mapping out the battle, etc) and the actual execution, it was a real winner.

The design of the planet-killer was not "closer to the original" than most other CG versions I've seen. Professor Moriarty here on this board did a better and more faithful job. So did Daren Dochterman.

The episode pretty much fell flat for me.

An aside that has nothing to do with the remastering or the CGI: It occurred to me watching DDM a few years ago, that the E and the Constellation would have probably been perfectly safe if they'd stayed BEHIND the goddam thing. It obviously couldn't turn very fast!

I found DDM mostly "okay," but the strafing run just made me go :wtf:

Whatever. It still looks like a starship avoiding the weapon projector by attacking the length of the ship to me. Except for one movement near the beginning, its all basically straight line and doesn't require atmosphere-like fighter FX. You're worried about strafing runs when most SF shows in space use sound effects, require unproven or impossible propulsion technologies, and use transporters that require almost infinite power to use in reality?? You're very particular with your dislikes.

How does that help them destroy it to protect populated planets??

Well, yeah. The plot required that a determined obsessive be at the helm of both ships in turn in order to get them into the path of the thing's fire.

Yeah, I didn't buy the strafing runs either. That and the redesign of the planet-killer just was not as disturbing looking - less angular, smoother.

Loved the new version of the Constellation, though.

Remastered. Although when I watch it with my gf she makes me rewind the effects shot and play them again as they originally appeared so that she can laugh at how crap they look.

^^^Different styles of fake. Neither looks real. In 20 years they'll both look equally as laughable.

We're not talking about the future, we are talking about the here and now. The question is: which looks less fake? I think the answer is obvious! Spoiler: It's the remastered version.

They not only missed the detailing on the bridge dome they still have a turbo lift lined up where it couldn't possibly be.
