So... how many regenerations did River have left? When she donated them to the Doctor is he allowed him to absorb those regenerations (assuming such a fanwanky thing is possible)? So instead of 2 Doctors left we might actually have like 8 or 9 left in the pipeline?
I don't think we should be thinking of it in terms of numbers. It wasn't like River was doling out slips of gold-pressed latinum to the Doctor. It wasn't like, "Here's a regeneration, and here's another regeneration, and hold on, I'm sure I've got another one round here somewhere..."
She gave him all her regeneration energy, but I don't see it being parcelled out in specific numbers. He was on the verge of actual non-regenerative death - it was an all-or-nothing kind of thing.
On the other hand, if they do eventually decide to make a big deal out of the regeneration limit thing, I have no doubt that they'll come back to this to explain it.
The doctor could have given the master one of his regenerations to save him from that gun shot at the apex of last of the Timelords...
Yeah but he wasn't actually regenerating in LotTL, whereas River was and Ten was in Journey's End. Wouldn't the Fifth Doctor have needed to use a machine to transfer his regenerations in Mawdryn?
Yeah, I'm gonna go with
Starkers on this one - this "passing on regenerations" thing only works when the person is actually in a regeneration cycle, because that's the only time they have access to regenerative energy to use it.
When the Master died in LotTL, the Doctor wasn't in a regenerative cycle, so there was nothing he could do. Maybe there is a technology that can do the job, but the Doctor didn't exactly have time to run off and get it, and even if he did, the technology was probably lost along with the rest of Gallifrey.
Isn't it amazing how much detail we can continually pull out of this crap to talk about?
