Roose Bolton is far worse, he's just better at hiding it.

..and there's a lot of Irish actors in this show generally. I assume conveience has something to do with it (easier Irish then shipping in say, Australians) but all the same.

My understanding is they've said they'll combine A Feast for Crows and A Dance With Dragons for the TV show - similar to how that's essentially a split novel. I'd like to see that covered by just one season of TV, but it's possible if we get that far it'll be two or more seasons.

None of the books really need more than one season. There's a lot of fat in every book after AGOT that could be trimmed.

I don't think the third book will get whole two seasons devoted soley to it. If the show runs the distance there'll probably be more and more rearranging of story elements as the seasons progress.

^ Exactly. Or, if nothing else, they could just do some sort of an "extended" season (like 16-20 episodes vs 12) to cover all of the "travelogue".

Has there been any hint/announcements towards when Season 1 will be released on DVD/BD?

    Cheers,

Or they could cut most of the travelogue out, since most of it is just padding.

I'd expect the DVDs of the 1st season of GOT to be released sometime in March next year.

HBO usually releases the DVDs near to the next season. For example, 3rd season DVD of True Blood was released on May 31st this year, about 3 weeks before the start of season 4.

The marketing teams for home video releases usually have very little in the way of a budget, so DVD releases near a season premiere tend to be very useful for promotion.

While I can understand that, it kinda drives me nuts, because I rarely have enough time to get through the DVDs before the new season starts.

The seasons don't necessarily need to conform to the beginnings and ends of the books. Maybe adapting ASOS goes 3 or 4 episodes into season 4, then they start the narrative for AFFC/ADWD, picking a point in the plot to end that season, and starting season 5 right there. I do hope they condense the world tour sections a bit...it would really tighten up a lot of the story.

They'd have to condense it for budget reasons.

I'm guessing it will go something along the lines of season three ending with the Red Wedding and Jon's election, possibly Tyrion's Patricide, with season 4 taking care of most of the other characters' climaxes of book 3 near the beginning of the season so as to give some meatier bits for the audience to get wrapped up in, then having the next season and a half be a combination of the next two books. Certain characters like Brienne and Arya can have their AFFC climaxes as they can then disappear for a short while in season 5(Brienne) or otherwise take up little screen time(Arya).
