Not me. Lois is dark red to dark brown to black depending on the era. This is the Lana Strawberry Blonde

None of the actors who played Jimmy Olsen had red hair yet no one ever complains about that.

So if Superman was a blonde in this movie, would things be hunky dory around here and the good ol' internets?

Nothing's ever hunky dory around here - if Superman's shield is the wrong size people have a cow. But it wouldn't bother me much.

It does bring up a good question though. How far are people willing to go in changing a character?

They cast Superman as a black man would heads explode?

Of course they would - casting a black actor as Perry White causes some folks to melt down.

Who would you cast? The absolutely box office-safe choice would be Will Smith, goes without saying.

All the nitpicking about the actors hair and hair colour in these threads makes me crack up!!! I would consider myself a traditionalist comic book fan but with regards to film adaptions I'm completely open minded as most of you probably know by now. Not much pisses me off lol.

Will Smith would be a good choice, but like with most Superman movies I think they would have to go with a relative unknown.

Sometimes it is difficult to see any established actor is such a well known role because it is hard to see them as that character instead of the actor themselves.

But I wouldn't mind a black man cast as Superman and I am a huge Superman fan.

Making Superman black wouldn't change his character, so I don't see why any heads should explode.

I said I don't see why they should explode, not why they would. ;)

    I agree they shouldn't.

But for some whose mind is a little more rigid and closed they would.

Because the black experience in America is exactly the same as the white experience?

I mean, it's not undoable. I think it'd be interesting. But not change the character? Maybe if you ignored it.

I'll say that the assertion is a lot more plausible today than it would've been if a black guy had been cast in 1978. In which case, it would have been utterly without merit. Not to move the goalposts, but I doubt a Superman from a pre-Brown Kansas, or immediately post-Brown Kansas (enforcement takes time, dudes), would be exactly the same guy.

There was I think some discussion about Will Smith for Captain America in the film's early development but I think that was mostly just online chatter.

Thank goodness. Will Smith is waaay to old to play either character.

Thinking back to Daniel Craig's casting as Bond, I'd have to say... No.

Going back to my previous post, I think Synder is casting some actors that don't normally fit the perceived notion we have.

If Synder were than he'd cast Sandra bullock from 10 years ago as Lois or Courtney Cox.

I don't know else could be Perry White but casting fishburne seems to tell me Synder might be casting for their acting talents.

    [Emphasis mine.]

That's really the crux of the issue. For comparison's sake the debate has already come up with Bond. The current Bond is blonde. And there's a growing popularity for Salmon to be the next one.

But you really can't compare the two because, while Bond is probably the bigger icon worldwide, Superman definitely has more significance States side. And Americans can be ... fussy.
