Original, or Remastered?

I've been watching a lot of TOS on Netflix recently and most of it I believe is remastered (actually, all of the episodes are probably remastered). Also, I actually have a few TOS episodes on VHS which aren't remastered, and while the remastered episodes do look better, the VHS editions don't look all that bad, either.

So, when you watch TOS, do you like the remastered, or original, untouched versions?

Lately I've been watching the "remastered" versions. I grew up with the originals, obviously, so the new versions are a welcome change of pace.

When it comes right down to it, it doesn't really matter to me. The original effects were just fine for me for the 30 years or so that I watched the show. Since I've gotten the blu-rays I tend to watch the new effects because I'm too lazy to change it. LOL!

Both or either. The new versions don't change the show enough for me to spend money on them, though, when I already own the originals.

Can't say it really bothers me which version. Though it tends to be the remasterd on TV these days

I grew up with the original, bought the original on CD, and just got the blu-ray version and started watching that. Almost through season 1 and will never go back. The detail. The color. The removal of film marks. Even without redone effects, which on blu-ray you can push the "scene" button and go back and forth between new and old effects. I love the detail and the yellow-green uniforms.

The originals. Because when I watch Star Trek I want to see what the people who actually originally made the show created, and that includes the special effects people.

I no longer watch the originals. I waited many years for the announcement of a "remastering" and followed along with the main project that was pitched to Paramount in the early 90s. It was quite a triumph when it finally came. I think the new FX enriches the show even if the stories stay exactly the same.

I used to prefer the remastered version, but now I prefer the originals.

I always watch in blu-ray now, though, and I can never go back to non HD TOS :).

I do prefer some of the remastered shots for certain scenes though. Like when Kirk is talking to the girl (Forgot her name) in Conscience of the King... You get to see the stars going by outside the window, which adds atmosphere. But it's mostly for little things like that. Also for some of the matte's, especially in Arena, which gets rid of the ugly duck tape. Then I switch back to original right after with the greatness of the seamless branching..

Both are great. I'm really enjoying the remastered though. They take great episodes and make them twice as epic!

TOS-R has some interesting moments, but the vast majority of the new f/x just jar me right out of it.

I stick with the originals.

I prefer the picture quality to be as good as possible, but that isn't essential to my enjoyment of the series.

As for the special effects, I enjoy both.

I was able to get all 3 remastered seasons on dvd a few years back, and while I generally like what they did, in many shots the Enterprise looks too dark or too "fake." The cleaned up film and brighter colors make things pop a lot more in the in-ship shots though, and most of the new effects are respectfully done (unlike what Lucas did with the Star Wars movies).

One episode I'd recommend watching in the original version is "The Doomsday Machine." The battle scenes in the remastered version are overdone and don't fit the music as well. Also, the planet killer itself looks more fake than in the original. Models will always look better than CGI IMO.

This, for those that enjoy the remasters please do, but I hope they keep the originals available as well. I prefer the original episodes.
