As was announced earlier this year, a company called Alcon Entertainment secured the rights to make films set in the Blade Runner universe (though not a remake of the original film itself).
As of today, it has been announced that Ridley Scott himself has been signed to direct and produce this new film, though it's still apparently not decided yet if the new film will be a prequel or a sequel. The article also states that is currently "unclear" if Harrison Ford will be at all involved, since the film has, of course, not progressed to the script stage yet.
My first thoughts? "No. God, no. Please, no." Especially since Scott has stated that he will "never work without 3D again."
I think, in honor of the original film and in sadness over this news, I will finally get around to embarking upon a thorough watch of the five-disc Blu-ray set I bought earlier this year.
