You sank my...BATTLESHIP! Teaser Trailer

Having finally gotten around to seeing the trailer myself my verdict is that I'm not expecting a masterpiece but it should make for a fun afternoon at the theatre.

Seriously, I didn't know this movie was supposed to be based on the game, and I didn't get the idea from the trailer. I only read about that on the Interblag later on.
I can see where you're coming from, but there's one dead giveaway. When the aliens fire the pegs-erm...missiles and they INSERT into the side of the ship without exploding (at least we don't see it). That's right out of the game.

As to the topic of why aliens, I agree with some of the reasons cited earlier, but I also will speculate (emphasis on speculate) that there will be a series of Battleship vehicle/toys and among them will be kewl alien ships that can change form (Hasbro has some experience in that area...).

It's a movie based on a board game, how can you possibly be upset by the insinuation that the story is pretty thin? It doesn't mean you can't still enjoy it.

Of course the story appears to be thin. And it will likely be trite and cliché. But me being upset? Hardly, just calling him on the idiotic assertion that there is NO story - and then watching him keep digging his meraphorical hole. :)

Somehow I managed to miss this until now.

Weeelll...if they wanted to go with a sci fi angle, why not take advantage of that to hew a bit closer to the idea of the board game, namely teleport Our Hero into some alien cosmos where the two sides "play war" with big-ass space-battleships, and the generals call the shots from some remote location, where they are callously insulated from the carnage they create?

Basically, A Taste of Armegeddon: The Movie. But they could still call it Battleship and it would be more true to the game than the nonsense they've come up with instead.

Bring on Hungry, Hungry Hippos.

Got something against artistic independence and the creative fruit of the adaptation process?! :p

Did you just really use the words "artistic" and "creative" in reference to this movie?

I think I need to go lie down now.

Hold on, this is how you do a game-movie trailer! It's even narrated by, uh...Alfred Hitchcock? Or what he'd sound like now, considering he's been dead for 20 years. :rommie:

Saw the trailer today. The trailer looks impressive, but I'll wait for the reviews before I think about seeing this next year.

Naval vessels versus aliens?

Perhaps someone has been reading John Ringo's Yellow Eyes.

They've already made a movie of Clue, and apparently a remake (!!!) was planned and has been scrapped. :wtf: The original movie was fairly entertaining as I recall.

I don't think I'd want to see a straight-up movie about greed that just happens to be called "Monopoly". I'd still want something of the game in there. Incorporating the game's whimsical look and style, and using the names of the various places on the board works for me.

A movie set in the Roaring 20s about 4 or five extremely wealthy people maneuvering and manipulating to gain total financial control of Atlantic City? It could work...
