DVD Boxsets - How do you watch them?

^

Because its awesome, that's why!

I still have my copy of the part color/part black & white on VHS!!!

I think the point is that the full black & white version doesn't exist anymore, since segments of it were colorized & used for the series' only two-part episode.

Sorry, but nothing was colorized. The black & white version was Gene Roddenberry's personal work print of "The Cage", not the actual print that was screened for NBC; that was in glorious living color.

The problem was that when the two-parter was put together, the only color print they had of the pilot was cut up and inserted into the framing footage. The rest was stuck in a film can and slated to be burned.

Fortunately, that can wound up under the shelving unit, where it remained for the next several years, until it was discovered, right about the time the color/b&w version was announced, showing that Murphy's Law is still in effect (they knew the second they announced the thing, someone was gonna pop up to announce they had the missing color footage).

In other words, nothing's happened to the black & white version, other than Rod putting it in a closet somewhere.

I watch them in the order they are on the discs. But most of the time I just watch random discs from all seasons.

I'm currently watching the whole series in the order they originally aired. It's interesting to experience the series the same way the audience did the first time around . . . .

The last time I did a marathon session of the whole series, I watched the episodes in reverse order. The show gets so much better as it goes along that way!

That's an interesting idea. I'll have to try that sometime. It also reminds me of that Seinfeld episode (I don't remember the title).

A quick qestion about the DVD's, I'm sad to say I've not watched a great deal of TOS in any format so I bought myself the Star Trek S1 Remastered(R2 version) and I noticed it doesnt feature the episode 'The Cage', is this on any of the remastered versions?

BTW, if this is a stupid question feel free to tie me up and hit me with Klingon painsticks (though be advised that I might enjoy it :-D )

I have the R2 DVDs - The Cage is on the last disc of season 3.

I usually start with "The Cage," "Where No Man Has Gone Before, " Corbomite Maneuver" and from there go in the same order that they appear on the discs. To be it's like watching 3 pilots in order as there are subtle differences in "Corbomite" from the rest of the series. It's also our first look at Dr. McCoy and the relationship between he and Kirk is explored a bit.

How much time has gone by between "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and "Corbomite Maneuvere"? Wasn't Dr Boyce in "Where No Man Has Gone Before"?

I think I'd peg it at around six months or so, a year at the most, to account for refitting the ship, personnel changes, etc.
