2011 MLB Season Discussion

Man Padroia is clutch. Papelbon is my fantasy closer, but there is a part of me that hopes he blows the save. I just want this game to continue.

And the game is over. Good game, and thanks for keeping the sports scene going all Sunday Night.

Tropicana Field hit by lightning...forces delay. How often does that happen?

Doesn't being indoors...keep one safe from lightning? :wtf:

Is the Trop not engineered right to do that?

Make no sense, eye R konfoozed.

In other news NICE that we shut out the DODGERS by FIVE to naught!

heh, I saw a classmate of mine from LA, who claims to be a dodger fan. He didn't know the Giants and Dodgers were playing tonight. The line of shit I gave him: "What kind of Dodger fan are you not to know when your team is playing the Giants?"

^ Apparently, lightning hit a power line outside of the building, causing some lights inside to go out. They couldn't immediately turn them back on, they had to wait like 20 minutes for the lights to cool down first.

Only took him 15 years to become a meaningful player for the Mets.

Good to see Beltran homer, hopefully it drives up his trade stock.

I'm thinking the Braves are going to end up with Beltran. They have about 10000 pitching prospects that are ready to play in the majors. But, then we'll only use Beltran for a half a season and he'll sign somewhere that's actually willing to make a decent contract for him.

Braves are pretty bad at making trades... so I guess we'll see. We cleared the farm system for Mark Teixeira and then gave him away for a rental in Casey Kotchman and a AAA pitcher. Still makes me sick.

Well, the rumor is it's a competition between the Phillies and the Braves, which means the price is going to be damn high. In that context, I think the Braves would win, since Phillies prospects have been given up in too many recent trades.

Judge Gross has ruled that while Frank McCourt has to use MLB's loan to keep the Dodgers afloat, he also ruled that the MLB loan must "be independent of and uncoupled from Baseball's oversight and governance under the MLB constitution." Essentially, this means that MLB can't use a violation of the loan provisions -- like, say, a default -- as evidence of a breach of league rules (leading to an MLB takeover of the Dodgers).

That said, Judge Gross, who will eventually decide the Dodgers' fate, said that Frank McCourt's personal stake in his attempted loan (the one made with a loan-shark hedgefund) "clearly compromised his judgment," and called him irresponsible for not even negotiating with MLB before seeking outside funding. It's a temporary, brief and fleeting victory for ol' Frankie.

I actually sat in on this bankruptcy hearing (before I realized I know absolutely nothing about bankruptcy and should do something else with my day).

Basically, this is far from over. Also, since McCourt isn't bankrupt and is still bound by MLB rules, there's a weird situation where Baseball should still have power over him no matter what a judge says. Really, this situation is very shady.

Aaand, Bucs and Braves head to the 18th inning. No runs since the 3rd.

I'm listening. This game as a feel of going for another couple of hours. Personally, if they see Daylight in Atlanta and this game is still going on, that would be fantastic. ;)

The Red Sox and Royals play 14 innings one night and finish the game with a score of 3-1, and then the next night they have a slugfest, 13-9. Baseball's weird.

Fucking outrageous.

Absolutely fucking outrageous. That's as bad a call as I've ever seen. What a disgraceful way for an umpire to ruin a 19 inning game.

Just saw the highlights and that was worse than the Jim Joyce call last year. Absolutely pathetic way to end a game like that. People argue that Baseball needs the human element, well, I argue that Human Element includes wanting to go home because you're too fucking tired to do your job. We need Instant Replay now, and screw human element.

I just saw the video on MLB.com. HOLY SHIT. What a load of bullshit that was! I think that might even be worse than Jim Joyce's unfortunate flub last season.

To hell with the "human element." All it does is ruin games like this. MLB needs to greatly expand replay. But that's never going to happen so long as Bud Selig remains commissioner. Thank goodness he'll be gone after next season.
