Design the Next Enterprise

It's nice looking, though it doesn't look like how I envision Adam's idea very much anymore. I hope, Adam, that you'll continue to develop your own ideas (albeit not as the "Enterprise F" anymore!) as well.

Of course, I don't play "MMORPG" games, so unless this gets transferred to other realms of the franchise, it's not that big of a deal to me, personally.

But they've done a nice presentation of it... much nicer than most of the ships I've seen in ST-O, really.

It's taken me a day to digest Cryptic's final draft, but I can now say that it's obvious why they chose her.

Like Vektor's, Adam's design has a very mature stature.

Her curves are a good deal more fluid. Very organic yet purposeful. No doubts as to her structural integrity.

She's not a great leap forward in design philosophy, a safer choice, probably wise. I have no doubts she'll be seamlessly accepted by the majority of fans, which is all anyone can hope for.

Congratulations Adam :) You've inspired all of us to keep working to improve :)

I hope we get to see her on the big screen some day :bolian:

It's nice...

Kinda hard to tell just how big it is though.

I count 18-20 decks, based on the windows.

Bigger.

I do hope they work on the textures a bit more. In some area the shapes seem purposeless or misapplied. Especially on the nacelle struts, which also don't blend with the other objects very well.

Your hoping against hope there i'm afraid. All the ships in STO suffer from haphazardly applied textures.

Take one of the screens and notarize the issues you see on it, and post it here (or link it here and I'll pass it along if you can't/aren't posting over there)

Capnlogan loves error reports, he'll fix em.

Do keep in mind the engine is a little cludgy and the poly-counts are low due as its a 'massive online game' - so they'll never be as pretty as standalone renders.

Thats what I mean, it's not errors, it's just how the meshes are made and textured. I will admit, ships such as the Galaxy Class have improved leaps and bounds over the course of the game when it comes to their look and feel, but others are still somewhat clunky looking.

Oh trust me I know, at launch most of the ships were appalling, and some of them haven't been touched yet since poor Logan is all alone now (Constitution, I'm looking at you)

Definitely report the issues you see, that was just a disclaimer to not nitpick over things that are due to scaling/quality issues rather than inaccuracies.

I try to report them, but my novice eye doesn't notice them until pointed out. Built-in rose-colored glasses I guess.

They accept reports of model errors?
I don't actually play the game, but does the Intrepid still look like absolute garbage? Because I will GIVE them my model if it means the game gets a half way decent Intrepid class.

Yep That thread I linked is the by the Ship Artist (Capnlogan) and he stops by daily-ish and goes through reports. He's been working pretty constantly since they made him "the guy" fixing the broken-ness.

He's done a pass on most of the "big" canon ships, including the Intrepid.

I dunno that its perfect or even CAN be perfect in the engine, but here are some screeenies:

Image 1, Image 2, Image 3

I think those were test images for the new "material" for the Ent-F, so its not wearing its Voyager-style material, but the new model is polished, for sure.

Well that certainly looks better than the pics I saw, although a lot of the issue was the texturing, so I can't judge that from these pics if they're not using the Voyager materials.
It's still not all too accurate, though I'm not sure how much of that is due to the poly count limit though. I'd like to know how many polys that uses to see if it's even possible to make it look good with that limitation.

I love the Enterprise-F. It doesn't look like over-powered or anything magnificentically superior or something like that. It looks good :)

Hm, I don't know. To be honest, in most angles the model looks just like the Enterprise-E. Which is a shame, considerung the original sketch looked much more promising. This final design, however, looks just like your ordinary late 90s Star Trek ship.

I would, but I appear to have been banned. The mods aren't telling me why. (I haven't done anything wrong I don't think) It makes me rather sad. :(

Feel free to mention it for me (though maybe you shouldn't use my name.) The problem is most noticeable on the nacelle struts and bottom aft of the saucer. The details simply don't correspond with the shape of the objects. Should be easy to fix.

She has plenty of good curves to go for her. I wonder how long it will be until someone tries to do a detailed model of her?

I'm a little surprised that she only has a pair of forward facing torpedo launchers, though I guess Cryptic is preferring the route of going back to only a couple of torpedo launchers fore and aft for most ships, as opposed to the idea of having multiple launchers introduced in First Contact.

Still, am I the only one disappointed here that the fact that they chose the name Odyssey for the class name means that Madeinjapan1988's Perception-class NCC-71832-B either can not exist, or had a very short career? I was kinda hoping for a class name that was a little more out of the way. Oh well, at least the Perception herself isn't conflicted...
