You know what, I was a little pissed off when I first read this news to be frank, but now I'm okay with it. That means we already have two big superhero films for the summer of 2013 as "Iron Man 3" is out as well. .

Thor 2 has the July 2, 2013 slot so that makes three superhero films that summer to date.
    Iron Man 3, May 3
    Man of Steel, June 14

Should be interesting in that Supes and Thor are often cited for their similarities so how they compete should prove interesting.

As the release schedule currently stands, The Man of Steel sits between two animated films: Turbo on June 7th and Monsters University on June 21st.

I forgot about "Thor 2". I am expecting an X-Men announcement of some kind of 2013 as well (if it's X4 or First Class 2) so that will be four comic book movies if we do get one and whatever else gets announced. Maybe "Deadpool" finally.

This is pretty disappointing, but not the end of the world (that's in 2012). It was exciting to have a Batman movie and a Superman movie in the same year, but Superman always seemed like a summer blockbuster anyway so I guess this makes more sense.

At the very least this will give Snyder and his team more time to work on the film's post-production special effects. Christopher Nolan will also have some more time to consult on this since he will be finished with The Dark Knight Rises and might be able to help Snyder and his team a little producing-wise.

This feels somewhat reminiscent of the last Star Trek movie which was slated to come out December 2008 and then was pushed back to Summer 2009, giving it six months more time. I think that ended up benefiting the production greatly. The special effects in that film were truly wonderful. I think a similar situation might occur with Man of Steel. At least they'll have more time to make a good film.

This really sucks, I was hoping to see the costume soon. I'm really pissed about this, looks like summer of 2013 will be crowded with superhero movies. I really want this Superman movie to be the Batman Begins that SR was not. This reminds me of what they did with Star Trek. Oh well, I hope this is a good thing, it looks like we will get quite a few years of superheroe movies. Superman and Batman are my two favorites, so i'm glad to see this happening. Now bring on JLA movie.

I think in some ways this is good. Many, many months ago I wondered aloud on this thread why the film wasn't being released to coincide with the character's 75th anniversary in June 2013, (somebody in response pointed out out it could be due to the legal issues currently surrounding the character) and now it will be :-).
Its the same with James Bond, had it not been for the financial problems at MGM we'd have had a Bond film this year instead of 2012 which is the 50th anniversary of that film franchise (and I believe the 60th anniversary of the first book).

Having said that, I hope nothing bad happens to me between December 2012 and June 2013.

SR did pretty good business, nearly 400 million worldwide - and that, of course, is with no "3D premium." So it's not like competition somehow tanked the film. Problem was that it was much more expensive than most of these movies.

^ And they added on all the costs of the abortive Superman projects that came before it. Much like how Star Trek The Motion Picture got saddled for the costs of the previous Trek projects that never were.
