Need advice on introducing myself to a girl through facebook.

Ultimately I think I overcame it by realizing that since people were more than likely going to be jerks I shouldn't care what they think or say. It's worked out for me, I'm generally happier these days and I do have a girlfriend, who is arguably more cynical about people than even I am. Which is super attractive, I must admit.

I have no problem talking to girls, being around girls, or heck even flirting with girls...only if I know in the back of my head that I would never hook up with them (whether they have a boyfriend or that I'm just not interested.).

It's only when I come across the ones that I really have a thing for that I become a jabbering idiot and don't know how to act

It's really just about reinforcing their world-view. If they convince themselves that it's RIGHT to be afraid and not take action, then it all falls into line. Much safer than having to do something...

There's this girl I really like (not the same girl that is the subject of my initial post) and I found out that she loves to go on walks. So I approached her and invited her out for a walk, and she said yes!
