Michael from lost is still my least favourite African American character, maybe even character, but this new guy is running a close second. The rub is that they both have exactly the same weakness, they will selfishly fuck over the entire universe to save their children, children I might add who are ambivalent to rage ridden about these fathers.
This is really wierd racial profiling.
Are they saying that Black Men love their children more than other ethnicities or that they just love more stupidly?

It's July 4th weekend. People probably have a lot of stuff going on.
Well it does allow them to deal with changes in society. That a 13 year old might gain full majority perhaps as husband to Lourdes the Catholic girl who won't get the hero prince after his girlfriend is rescued from the harness.
Don't mind me just mindless speculation.

Holy crap, they really amped up the sap factor in this episode. Some of the dialogue was downright cringeworthy. 
Speilberg's hand is very heavy on this show (and makes me fear for Terra Nova.)
And once again, the music was the sappiest thing of all. They really need to tone down the music and write less wooden, overly expository dialogue. I've already got the message that Tom misses his wife.
And where was this horrific entity we were promised?!? It wasn't until the end that I realized they must have been talking about the possessed kid. So what, we've seen worse from the Goa'uld.
However, I did appreciate the new hints about the skitters. The captured skitter sure didn't talk like a conquerer. That adds more fodder to the theory that whoever's running the show, it isn't the skitters. I still think they're a previously conquered species.
Why is Stephen Weber's character (someday I do plan to remember his name) acting like such a lunatic? If it's continuing guilt over Tom's wife, I don't think they're making the connection strongly enough via the writing. He just comes off as unhinged.
Christian-Girl needs to be given a reason to be in this show other than to provide some awkwardly shoehorned scenes that remind us "religion still exists."
This one merits more like a 3, but I continue to feel generous because I like the alien mystery angle, so I'll give it a 4 again this week.

OK, this show's got me. They're letting info out at a pretty good pace and it's keeping me interested. Hard to tell if the captured Skitter is itself a lackey or if it's just being devious. I like the radio frequency thing. Also, more evidence that someone from Boston must be on staff because the alien tower over downtown looked about the right distance from "Somerville". I like that they take some care of technical accuracies like that. I'm still looking forward to finding out why they're here. Their occupation numbers must be very thin or they wouldn't bother with the harnessed kids.
Maybe the inefficiency of the aliens is due to the fact that they are a slave army who doesn't even want to be fighting, but is mind-controlled by the actual alien overlords, the way the skitter controlled the kid's mind. They're all hive-mind-connected.
For all we know, the skitters that Pope firebombed were deserters who were trying to hide out. The mystery of the skitters (and Mechs - who's in there?) is what keeps me watching. Once the truth is revealed, the acid test will be whether I feel like continuing to watch after that.

Man, I watched this with family where my "he's exhausted" comment after they found Pope's victim fell on dead ears.
This show isn't what I necessarily wanted but I'm trying to enjoy it for what it is rather than continute to take it to task for what it is not. I'm finding that kind of rolling with it made the last episode enjoyable. Even the schmaltziness is amusing me, at least they didn't sing "Kumbaya".
If anything they might be trying to compensate for the stereotype of missing or deadbeat fathers in the black community.

I think the Webber character is supposed to be the stereotypical doctor with a God complex. He is an arrogant bastard who thinks he knows everything and is better than everyone, just because he's a good surgeon. Not terribly interesting or original, but certainly understandable.

Loving Noah Wylie in this; he's great in his role. The whole kids/hive mind thing was creepy, and a great plot twist.

I thought it was good, they revealed the radio wave communication/control (Find the right frequency, and they can block the transmission, I imagine and neutralize the harnessed kids so only the Skitters and Mechs need to be fought). The captured Skitter speaking through the kid definitely didn't look feel like a conquering overlord.
I think the religious girl was fine, you gotta believe there would be one around at least. Hopefully they won't get carried away with her, though.

However Lourdes (religious girl) says she's pre-med in college, and I know I'm getting so old that every one under twenty five looks like sperm, but she is effortlessly passing for 11.

I think what the producers are telling us is that this PARTICULAR character may love his son to a fault.You two might enjoy and understand the show a bit more if you stopped thinking character motivations are based on race or racial stereotypes.
