2011 MLB Season Discussion

Not the GM, the manager. It sounds like the front office was jerking him around in regards to his contract situation, so he quit.

^ Meh, I don't think it's that bad. They have white unis without pinstripes, white ones with pinstripes, grey, and black.

And they're all ugly! :techman:

I'm getting killed in my fantasy league this week. Batting average is .111 or something ridiculous.

I don't like the pinstriped ones, they're kind of an ugly off-white. My favorites are the black uniforms, then the white ones w/o stripes.

As great as the 1986 Mets were, I hated those unis they had to wear, with the stripes down the sleeves and all that crap. Not as thoroughly ugly as the early 80's Whitesox unis, but close. :scream:

The manager quits, the Nationals keep winning. Is there such thing as co-managers of the year because if the Nats continue doing what they are doing, how do they award that one. Great win for the Nats tonight.

This is true... there are always people at the games, but I'm pretty sure they're just having business meetings. The place always clears out by about the 7th inning from what I can see on TV.

And go fantasy team. I finally have starting pitching going this week and there haven't been any ERs today.

Pirates take two against the Red Sox! Looking for the sweep tomorrow!:D

That would be awesome if they did. This was the same red sox team that absolutely killed Toronto and Milwaukee the last few weekends. I feel about the Pirates the same I feel about the Nationals. I want to see struggling franchises do well, and so far I'm seeing that with Pittsburgh and Washington.

As for the Giants, one of the things I love about baseball is there are so many ways to win or lose. Today, it was all about that seventh inning, where there were two errors, Sherholtz rumbling and stumbling, a few walks, and thank the god the umpire behind the plate has a reputation of calling Balks. Balkin' Bob Davidson struck again and it ended up being in the Giants favor.

Damn you Mets! Stop playing .500 ball and hanging around in the pack. Just go on the inevitable 12 game losing streak so you can trade Reyes and Beltran for something valuable before they both get hurt because someone looked at them the wrong way.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that, at 31 - 45, the Cubs are packing it in and have let teams around the league know that any of their high-priced players are available.

Unfortunately, those high-priced players are Alfonso Soriano, Aramis Ramirez, Carlos Zambrano and Kosuke Fukodome.

I imagine they'd be able to move Fukudome, since his contract is up after this year, and possibly Ramirez, since he only has a team option for 2012, though he has no-trade protection and has said he won't waive it. Flipping Soriano or Zambrano, though, would require eating a ton of money. Ugh.

The Cubs packed in in a while ago, they just didn't know it yet.

I'm long past getting my hopes up each year. I just "wait & see" and then wait some more.

At this point, eating a lot of money doesn't do them any good. At least with Bradley, they got rid of a cancer in the process.

The problem is that all indications are that Jim Hendry's going to keep his job for one more season (unless the team absolutely tanks and finishes with 95 - 100 losses), and he -- with the blessing of owner Tom Ricketts -- has already said that the team will be spending money this offseason. It's essentially guaranteed that the team will not pick up Ramirez's option for next season, and Ryan Dempster has a $14 million player option that I'm sure the team will strongly encourage him not to exercise.

Long story short, the Cubs will be making a strong run at Albert Pujols, as stupid as it will be to do so with his age and health problems. And then the Cubs will be stuck with yet another Soriano-esque albatross of a contract for a decade. :barf:

I'm sure the Braves will make some atrocious deal with the Cubs on July 31st.

If Soriano's involved, that would be the best birthday present since Ryne Sandberg going into the Hall of Fame on my 21st birthday in 2005.

Edit: Or Dempster, because if I see another one of his awful impressions of Will Ferrell doing an awful impression of Harry Caray, I'm going to shoot my TV.

Almost time to hear ESPN complain about the Shadows almost the entire game at AT&T Park. I like the fact that ESPN is coming out west a bit more this year (Winning the World Series would do that I'd imagine) but the whole thing about the Shadows got tiring during the game a few weeks ago.
