Roddenberry got the idea for Star Trek and the design of the Enterprise, from a secret file left in a mid western airforce base entitled 'Star Trek' with a clear picture of the Enterprise taken by a Lt. Christopher.
FACT: Wil Wheaton actually had an affair with Gates McFadden. Because of their roles and age difference, everyone on the set thought Gates was just being extra motherly to Wil. It was the perfect cover for their pseudo Oedipal indulgences.
FACT: In the course of writing all of DS9, Benny Russell also went off on tangents and wrote many but not all episodes of TOS, TNG, and VOY just so he could reference them in DS9.
FACT: Matt Lucas was originally slated to play Seven of Nine on Voyager at the insistence of UPN network brass, but Jeri Taylor held out, believing a woman would be more in keeping with Voyager's matriarchal themes.
FACT: In the original ending of The Trouble With Tribbles, the Sherman's Planet colonists survive the loss of the quadrotriticale by eating the tribbles.
FACT: Had there been another TNG movie after Nemesis, one idea was to replace Data with Seven of Nine and for B4 to become the villain of the film. Brent Spiner would also have reprised the role of Lore as well.
FACT: In the Star Trek Eleven movie, the character who beats the shit out of Chris Pine in the bar room fight scene was originally supposed to be played by William Shatner. But there were scheduling problem.
Due to the impracticalities of the costume and the improbability of the figure, Seven of Nine was only Jeri Ryan from the neck up. Everything else was CGI.
FACT: Nichelle Nichols was considering dropping out of Trek after the first season, but a chance encounter with her future self, who reminded her that a universe-ending paradox could ensue, made her change her mind.
FACT: Originally, the first alien to be encountered by the TNG crew was supposed to be Dr. Who. Gene Roddenberry had been an avid fan for years and wanted to pay homage to that low-budget sci-fi series. Tom Baker was even in discussion to do the role. But after several weeks of debating, it was eventually decided to go with the "Q" character. A little hint of that prior intent was echoed in the title "Q Who".
FACT: The 'New Era' spoken of by Q as an important event in their history is actually a reference to a JJ Abrams film when one of its lens flares developed sentience. And thus the Q were born.
FACT: They originally had Altoona, Pennsylvania as Sisko's hometown.
FACT: Scott Bakula once walked on the set one morning during a taping after a night of drinking and actually thought he was still playing Sam Beckett. Rumor has it that he thought John Billingsley was Dean Stockwell.
