If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go with ?

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

Wishbone but a cat, and I wouldn't dress it up neither.

I don't know what the talking cat would do or even if humans would be able to understand it. I'm thinking EITHER adult sitcom or family sitcom or pre-school show, either way, I want talking cat.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

And I find it amazing that the people lodging this complaint never watch the show!
I've seen the show.

We get British TV like, a lot, for some reason (anyone want to take a wild guess here?)

I don't like it that much. Hence the appellation of 'not a fan'.

Of course, you managed to completely miss the couple or so Doctors that actually looked like William Hartnell...
Doesn't matter. The only unifying feature you can give for all eleven that I can see is they're white British men.

Don't they all have a Tardis? *he asks innocently* And travel through time? With a companion?

I'd like to see a show set in and around The Crash of 29.
A couple/three well off families dealing with the hot jazz era at first, then segueing into the Crash, with one losing everything and having to start over, and one family retaining its wealth while a third struggles to keep up appearances. The entire show would be about human response under duress and the ability to be compassionate. Told right, you could easily garner a few Emmy nods...and it would be relevant to our current time...

Also, a turn of the century show about Midwest America. Maybe like that old cartoon Those Were The Days...

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

I had an SF idea years ago about a troubleshooter/mercenary of sorts who had been working for a billionaire industrialist in a capitalist future, may 300-400 years from now, cleaning up the industrialist's shady dealings on various planets until he finds a young girl (5-7 yrs old) orphaned by his boss's thugs.

He quits his job to raise the girl in seclusion on an unknown world. 10 years later, the girl is now a teenager and is bored cooped up on this planet for so long. She is a telepath/telekinetic and manages to slip away on an automated supply shuttle.

The troubleshooter finds out she's missing and sets out to find her, and quickly realizes that his former boss is still looking for the girl, to use for his shady dealings. The industrialist's new troubleshooter has no such conscience and the two battle it out for control of the girl across the galaxy, both trying to find her.

The pilot episode would start with her escaping and the backstory would be told in flashbacks. The first season would deal with the hunt from city to city, or planet to planet, and in the season finale it is revealed that there is a whole underground movement of psychics and they have the girl, who is prophecied to bring down the corrupt capitalist empire. There is no prophecy, just a delusional psychic who wants the girl to destroy the industrialist.

A cult of psychics against a billionaire and a mercenary, all against the mercenary with a conscience.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

OK, Brother Benny. I'll watch that. Record it, even. When does the pilot come out? :)

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

I just gave you a perfectly plausible sci-fi reason. He was born a white boy.

Oh cmon, there is nothing "sci fi" about that. :rommie:

If you want the character to be a certain human demographic despite being an alien, then fine. But the reasons behind it are not "sci fi." I think you just don't want to admit what they are likely to actually be. ;)

I don't care about the character or the show. You don't have to be coy for my sake.

I don't give a shit that the guy's White.

If I don't care, why does it bother you so much??

It doesn't bother me, since I don't care about the show anyway, but I'm curious about it. It's kinda the white elephant in the room (no pun intended). They have a character where it would be incredibly simple to change his demographic details, yet they don't. That's like the other shoe not dropping. It raises questions. The producers would have to be very naive not to realize this. Either they are naive, or they're sending a deliberate message. I wonder which one is the case.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

How do you think this idea would go?

I've been watching a couple of docos on various aspects of British life, and one was about coal mining towns, and how their purpose has gone when Thatcher closed the mines. The idea was a multigenerational series about a coal mine, from discovery, through social upheaval and the Industrial Revolution, through 2 wars, and finally the great fall, and just a little after, to try to understand what happens next.

Actually thought of itas novel or novels, but might work as a TV series, sort of like 'The Onedin Line' on land.

None of which has to do with how they look visually, aber.

I think we have a plot for Boardwalk Empire's ninth season right here (unrelated: I love Boardwalk Empire).

But no, seriously, the roaring twenties are a deathless era. I'd watch the pilot.

Sounds like a BBC thing. Has promise, to the point a lot of BBC programming does - I guess the issue is to balnace out the well-intentionedness of the social commentary without making it dull. A bit of David Simon-esque anger could work here.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

He was born a white boy. Every regeneration will be born a white boy because his DNA can't make him anything else. He's a Time Lord, not a Changeling!

Now correct me if I'm wrong, any of you DW fans who happen to be reading this, but...

Wasn't it recently established that a Time Lord can change gender during regeneration? If that's true, then surely changing the apparent 'race' would be less of an issue.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

Here's my idea, called Oppobrium..

God is represented as seven modern young people.
They spend most of their time in a basement.
So, the idea is that these seven people are merely all one mind. Together they could form god, and throughout history, who they are specifically changes but the function of each person is the same. Normally each of these different people (aspects of his mind) all get along fine but not in this scenario.
Kalondigus would be the main part, the one that sets the doctrines, makes all the final decisions, and most closely resembles the final version of god. He is an intimidating fellow, and at first we think he unable to leave the basement. At first.
The Running Rabbit is like his errand girl. I didn't intend this to be so strong when I came up with it, but she is the angel.. (that analogy actually works even though I didn't think of her that way when I cane up with it) and she runs errands for Kalondigus in the real world, and can escort other asects of God's mind back and forth. Kalondigus himself almost never leaves the basement.
Mariel represents the impulsve drive of humanity, the side of people that act on feelings alone, while Rishaldi represents the more rational side of humans.
Play Button and Lesser Evil are two guys that work together constntly to try to help Kalondigus adapt to whatever the culture is at the time. In a way, think of them having the same role as the monks that wrote the Bible. They take current events of histoy and try to fit them into what Kalondigus might want. Both of these guys have slightly different takes on how this should work, Lesser Evil believes that people are enriched by the threats (his counterpart would have written the old testament back in the day) while Play Button is more forward thinking (he would have written the new Testament).
Paulson is a normal modern person, and would kind of be Kalondigus' eyes, ears, and messenger. Whatever Play Button and Lesser Evil would come up with, this guy was supposed to deliver that message to the world and then report back to Kolandigus. In other words, he would fulfill the same role that Jesus had. Again, when I came up with it, these analogies were not intended to be so strong, but it actually kind of works and is easier for me to explain.
So the idea is that, despite these seven aspects of his personality, god only gets a mere impression of how humans operate, behave, believe and act, and they only get a mere impression of him this way as well. In the past, this never mattered, but in modern culture, now, the aspects of his personality begin to have a conflict over this.

Th catch is that Paulson is sick of waiting around, and volunteers to go out in the world, using Play Button and Lesser Evil's research as a guide, but they aren't finished yet (they do give him some stuff to go on, like magazine clippings and printouts from wikipedia), so Running Rabbit wants to prepare him for the task ahead, so she takes him out of the basement for a quick tour. What ends up happening is that she leaves him in an alley and decides not to escort him back! Paulson has with him a mere page from a magazine, but it the closest thing to a tangible "word of god" set in historical context that Play Button and Lesser Evil had ready at the time, so I was basically making fun of how useless (and how tied into history and how morallly questionable) the Bible is.
Kolandigus debates with the other aspects of his mind but becomes increasingly concerned that Paulson will never return. As he starts to get equipment together, bullet-proof vest, helmet, military gear, assault rifle, etc, we realize in the first season cliffhanger that he can go out of the basement, but never did for his own protection, hence the all the gear needed when he does go out.

Mariel gets pissed at Rabbit for what she has done and acts impulsively, at least at first, but in the process, she realizes what both Play Button and Lesser Evil start to realize: that this whole idea, their whole methodology, is wrong, and would only give Kalondigus a fragmented view of humanity. So, just as Marielwould break down the door to beat the crap out of Rabbit, she decideds to simply leave. She decides not to act on impulse, and this surprises Rishaldi.

By the same token, the two monk-like characters, Play Button and Lesser Evil, also realize that Kalondigus will get nowhere with the traditional way of learning about people.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

Regarding the Doctor not being a woman, or so on-there are some exceptions to this.

When the Eleventh Doctor first recovers from his regeneration, he assumes by his longer hair that he's turned into a girl. But then he notices his neck and realizes he's a man again.

Neil Gaiman's "The Doctor's Wife" also established that time lords can regenerate into other genders.

There's also an older Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) episode "Destiny of the Daleks" where the Doctor's companion-another time lady-regenerates into a blue-skinned alien before settling on a regular woman. Funny thing is in the serial she wore a pink and white version of the Doctor's coat and scarf, and the actress was (briefly) married to Tom Baker. SO this confirms that time lords can turn into other forms such as aliens.

The Doctor Who audios have also had a female Doctor played by Arabella Weir, although this was a "What if" scenario.

The spoof "Curse of Fatal Death"-which is written by the current writer/producer, Stephen Moffat-has the Doctor regenerate into Joanna Lumley (Best known to USA audiences from "Absolutely Faboulous")

There have been a number of female characters who sort of are female 'equals' to the Doctor, meaning that they are very intelligent and able to pilot the TARDIS. Apart from the forementioned Romana (Who appeared in two incarnations on the show, one played by THE ODESSA FILE's Mary Tamm, the other by Lalla Ward, who was mentioned above) there was also Donna, who sort of became a half-Doctor, or "The DoctorDonna", recently the "Sexy" humanoid version of the TARDIS and recent recurring character River Song.

And although they don't count that much, there have been many fan films featuring female Doctors.

And the production team have, at times, considered a female actress for the Doctor-the earliest time I think was when Tom Baker left.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

I'd do a show that has people discussing what kind of show to do. There will be pointless bickering and arrogance throughout. To the characters, it would be serious business. To viewers, clearly a comedy.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

That's a stupid idea, Broccoli. :vulcan:

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

I would do a show about characters talking directly into the camara and berating and laughing at the audience for being so stupid as to watch a show about beautiful and highly paid young actors laughing at them and berating them. It would be a teen angst drama but the audience would be involved as another character who should be doing something but isn't as if it's all your fault. Their problems and angst that is.

Re: If you had to create your own TV show, what concept would you go wi

My show would be called 'It Never Happened' or 'Never Was' and would have long scenes of the characters just looking into the camara and making all kinds of blaming judgemental faces occasionally saying things like 'Where are you? What are you doing? while looking up and down in extreme close ups all while visiting homes of the viewers as part of the story. All scripted of course. A running story like if Shakespeare in the park moved around town. A travelling t.v. show of actors in character coming to your neighborhood soon. Nobody is what they seem to be anyway. Do you think a circus clown is a circus clown in real life?

More like the awesomest idea ever!!

Seriously though, I was surfing the 'net, and I came across this following image:

This is a show that needs to be made! Endless possibilities!
