Wonder Woman(NBC) *Spoilers!*

In fairness, Joss Whedon managed to turn one of his characters from bog-standard homosexual into lesbian with almost nobody batting an eye, so it's not as though somebody couldn't come along and make a sweeping proclamation.

And maybe THAT's why WB fired him from the WW project? ;)

Again, I'm not talking about what might be done in the future, I'm answering what I interpreted to be a question about the prior sexual orientation of Wonder Woman in the comics. How much clearer do I have to make that?

Huh? Did you mean "Bog-Standard Heterosexual"?

^ LOL! Indeed, what a mistake. Gonna go back and correct that now.

Right. I was extrapolating that it's possible that won't necessarily be a factor in the future despite the overwhelming evidence of the past.

At the time that was huge and ridiculous.

The suits from network gave Joss these parameters for season 4.

1. You're not allowed to tell the audience that they're gay directly.

2. You're not allowed to use the word Lesbian or girlfriend.

3. You're not allowed to show them making any physical contact.

Which is why Joss had to use metaphor's about "witchcraft" and the Camera always pulled away or willow would look worried rather than answer a direct question.

The "success" of the relationship, no noticeable backlash, meant that by season 5, Joss could say "go fuck yourself" to those rules.

Heh, yea, LOGO channel (The Gay Channel) plays the heck outta Buffy reruns, and their commercial has Willow saying, "Hello...Gay Now"

I know the gay channel logo plays buffy all the time I just resently rewatch the series and had to fast forward the comericals. now when should we expect wonderwoman to be released and which uniform is she going to wear?

BTW...is there any reason for this thread to remain open? It doesn't look like this will be shown any time soon anywhere else. There's really nothing else to discuss about it IMO.
I don't see any reason for it to be closed so long as people are still talking about it.

_canceled_ or to be more accurate, not picked up for series.

what was the reason for it not being picked up?

They didn't like what they watched and perhaps the test audiences didn't like it either.

People are talking about Wonder Woman in general now. Not the pilot. Discussing a characters sexual orientation is not pertinent to why the pilot was dropped or anything else to do with the character.

Unless you figure that the characters' sexual orientation played a role in the pilot's failure... but I guess I've spoke my peace on that. :p

Who can say? It's one of about ten pilots that NBC passed on this year, versus eight pilots that they did buy. This is the way TV works. Lots of producers pitch ideas for TV series. Most get rejected, but some get approved for pilots. Pilots are basically auditions, and quite a lot of them, even the majority of them, don't succeed. It's a competition, a competition for a limited number of time slots and a limited amount of network funding, and so there have to be winners and losers. The Wonder Woman pilot just wasn't strong enough to win the competition.

Earlier in this thread I mentioned that a friend of mine who works on the WB lot had provided me with some production drawings, but I didn't want to post them as to not get my friend in hot water. Now that it doesn't matter anymore...

I know one of the networks used to have a show made up of pilots that weren't picked up. Does anyone know if they still have that? Because I could see this being high profile enough that they might want to show it. Or maybe they could pull an Aquaman and post it one ITunes.
