Isn't filler a term for anime when they start adding stuff in cause they haven't caught up with the comic?

It's already been pointed out in the thread, but everyone seems to have forgotten (maybe it's some kind of Internet Silence Effect), but the answer to everyone's complaint about the Doctor being useless in Rory's resuscitation was right there in the episode. Specifically, the Doctor deliberately stayed out of the way because Rory had specifically placed responsibility for his resuscitation in Amy's hands.

Even today a doctor does not have the right to override his patient's explicit instructions without next-of-kin's consent, and Amy did not ask for his help. The Doctor did not help because he had been told not to, and indeed I interpret his reaction when he believes Rory has died to be regret that he could not do anything to help.

Yeah, because the Doctor always does as he's told. Especially when people are in danger of dying.

Nailed it.

Rory's wishes, And with 2000 years of memories he is even older than the Doctor, I'd say that gives him the right to make his own choices.

I repeat: Yeah, because the Doctor always does as he's told. Especially when people are in danger of dying.

What the Doctor does and doesn't do isn't really in question here, but he seems to have a growing respect for Rory, why wouldn't he allow him to make his own choice in the matter?

What the Doctor does and doesn't do isn't really in question here...
Except that's the exact question here. The Doctor does what the Doctor wants to do, everyone else be damned. Respected colleague or otherwise.

Because that's not what he does. He doesn't sit idly by and watch someone die when he can stop that from happening. Especially when it's something fairly easy to do in the first place.

He'd be much more likely to say something like "quit being stupid" and then just go right on and do it. Not "oh, okay, you can die if you want" then just sit back and twiddle his thumbs.

You're not talking about some other character when you come up with ridiculous comments like that. This is the Doctor. His ego is far too massive to not do it.

What if the Doctor doesn't have a defibrillator in his sickbay?

You don't need a defibrillator for a drowning victim, you need a ... er ... dehydrator.

...

Anyway, I'm with Checkmate on this. The Doctor should have been doing something more than looking worried in that scene.
