ZTE Blade - android phone that cost £70 with no contract.

Lucky bastard.
I paid mine £110 without a contract (on PAYG) in an Orange store.
It's been called Orange San Francisco in UK of course, still, I got off much cheaper with it than buying something else.
Besides, I replaced it's ROM with a custom Froyo one and is unlocked automatically for free as well.

The phone was/is a steal. :-)

Orange had an offer around Christmas and in conjunction with a cash-back site and the fact that they forgot to apply the mandatory £10 credit, I got lucky.

As for Roms and the like, I flashed it almost straight away and am using Swedish spring. Fantastic phone for the money.

The only time I've ever owned a cell phone was for a couple of months in the autumn of 2005.

Nowadays, even my home phone is a replica of an antique Ericsson from the 1890s.

Fie on all your cell-phonery. You phonies. Fie, I say!

Ah.
Well, since I was in London as a tourist when I got it, I had to get it in-store.
Besides, the on-line purchase was a dodgy option due to a lot of people claiming they got a malfunctioning handset.
I got the white version and it works perfectly fine (it's TFT, but that's not really that important, and the RAM is at 512Mb just as it should be).

I was using Swedish Spring myself...
The 4b version was ok in terms of battery, but the menus were choppy/lagging immensely (very poor UI performance).
I gave it a go with the 5g Lite Phat2 version of Swedish Spring, and while the UI performance was slightly better, the battery consumption was rather fast during use (much faster than on previously used rom's).
I did the manual battery calibration prior to using the ROM's of course.

I finally settled on the Modaco Custom r12 Rom (which I used before).
It's UI is VERY snappy (incomparably more fluid when compared to used SS) and the battery consumption is low.
I used System App Remover to get rid of WaveSecure (which I failed to remove by any other means - it's a complete waste of resources and slows down the OS), along with Facebook, Twitter and several other apps I never use.
So right now, I'm pretty satisfied.

And I have to say that while I'm relatively looking forward to the upcoming ZTE Skate, it's hardware specs leave a lot to be desired (especially when compared to dual-core phones that are on the market) and will not be getting it (the larger screen, flash and OC-ed cpu to 800Mhz simply aren't enough - besides the blade will do just fine until I decide to get something else in say 2 years time).
