Nope, it syncs contacts and calendar with whatever email service you use, can be Windows Live or Gmail or Yahoo...

Thanks for this info!

I never got round to setting up a Windows Live ID, but just have, and have got Outlook to sync up with that Windows Live account, so in a roundabout way, that restores the sync'ing with Outlook as when I sync Windows Live with WM7, that will automatically sync Outlook too. A bit of a palaver to set up, but I've just realised it has the unbelievable benefit of bypassing the horrendous ActiveSync. In fact, I'd guess that you don't have ActiveSync at all in WM7, right?

After a bit more research I think I'm pretty much sold now on getting the HTC 7 Pro.

...but no 4g...

Talking of 4G, the UK seems to be incredibly delayed in getting on board the 4G bandwagon. I guess the operators still remember getting their fingers burnt with too much debt in the overpriced 3G auction at about the height of the dotcom boom, and are dragging their heels this time round.

ActiveSync is dead :D
you'll be using the Zune desktop software (or WP7 Connector on Mac)

Its passing will not be mourned by many...

OK, that's me decided then. As soon as WP7 gets custom ringtones and turn-by-turn voice navigation (I don't think Bing Maps does that in the UK yet), I'm there. Those are the only two things I currently use that I'll need my next phone to do, and I really like the big/clear WP7 interface more than the other two major competitors so that's the OS I want.

Since October 2010, my main phone's been an Nokia 5230, I went for a limited edition White/Silver one.

I love this phone.

I have the exact same model. Very nice phone. Although we'll be switching carriers soon so I may get an iPhone. Although I kind of want a Windows Phone so that I can make my own applications (I do a lot of Silverlight development).
Yes, I want a Windows Phone too, now. But so far, This is the best phone I've owned to date, it is pretty nifty.:)

there are a few third party apps with turn-by-turn navigation, but with regards to custom ringtones we're out of luck until they decide to implement it :(

Any details on these?

My brief look around the net seems to suggest they're either very rudimentary or don't work for the UK. Sorry to keep throwing questions at you; I appreciate the advice!

hmm . . . I didn't think of the geography factor
there's one called Silver Navigator and another called A-to-B
and also AT&T Navigator but that would probably be of no use to you :p

My Motorola phone has an app that detects when anyone uses the Star Trek Communicator chirp on their flip-phones, and then automatically texts everyone in the immediate area and tells them to laugh at that person and not with them.

Unfortunately, the small print on my contract says that you are then required to read three pages of commentary about the incident, so the punishment fits the crime.

I overheard a very loud ringtone of the STTMP theme in the grocery store and I smiled at the guy. He didn't seem embarrassed at all.

RAMA

Nokia N79. By far the best mobile I've ever had.

I'm mildly tempted to grab an Android or W7 phone, but I doubt I'd use most of the features (or even be able to) so it seems pointless. And besides, I like Nokias. They seem more able to cope with abuse (of the unintentional kind, like being dropped) than other phones.
You'll be in luck very soon then, since Nokia and Microsoft have just struck a deal and Nokia is already working on their first WP7 phone. :D

Holdfast, as far as I know A-to-B is quite good as a navigator.
The personalised ringtones won't happen any time soon though: even ManGo, the next big software release, which will come before the end of the year, won't see them implemented.

I lol'd.

There's no option for the table phone I have sitting in my living room that I bought in 1989.

No, it's not a rotary. :rommie:

Nokia X6. I like it OK, except that the mp3 player will only group tracks into albums if they have EXIF data attached to them. If you put them in named folders the tracks just come out in one long list unless they EXIF data has the album name in it.

Also the video is crap, it is so picky it will hardly play anything. Good email though.

Nokia durability with a more up-to-date OS. Excellent. :D Thanks for the info. :bolian:

I'm pretty sure all MP3 players are like that nowadays

ZTE Blade - android phone that cost £70 with no contract.

Lucky bastard.
I paid mine £110 without a contract (on PAYG) in an Orange store.
It's been called Orange San Francisco in UK of course, still, I got off much cheaper with it than buying something else.
Besides, I replaced it's ROM with a custom Froyo one and is unlocked automatically for free as well.

The phone was/is a steal. :-)
