PSN down thread

Indeed. I want the Honest Hearts DLC for Fallout: New Vegas in five days dammit. I also want the latest patch. I know I can get it without the PSN being up but... a couple friends of mine did DL the patch and it screwed up the first DLC, Dead Money. And they can't re-install that until the PSN is back up. GRR!!!

i have a feeling that five minutes after PSN is up and running, people will have forgotten this debacle.

Not before some people make a mistake I'm afraid.

Fed up with the continued PlayStation Network downtime, PS3 owners are increasingly opting to trade in their consoles for cash or Xbox 360s.

That's according to a number of retailers, who told Edge under conditions of anonymity that the PSN troubles are having a major impact on the high street.

You know who I think is going to make out like a bandit during this fiasco? Gamestop and other retailers who do hardware trade-ins. They'll give people little of nothing for their PS3, sell a used or new 360, and then when the dust settles on this PSN problem, then sell the PS3s back to people who now decide they can't live without them when Uncharted 3 (or whatever) comes out.

Yeh Sony will see the effects of this backlash from fans and potential fans who were considering buying a PS3 for at least a few months even when they get PSN backup.

Got to remember more than just PSN is down. All SOE games are also down so no DCUO, EQ, EQ2, or EQ2X, I hope EQ2X players get some station cash out of this since it is f2p a free month doesn't do much for me.

PSN is back up...BUT

Only for Developers, Sony you are a tease you know that :p

A worker for a third party game testing company in Canada posted on NeoGAF that PSN was up and running where he worked, at least enough to play a game's co-op mode. Since that post, A number of other developers had confirmed to her that their part of PSN was working.

Things are a little "shaky" with the network at the moment, and certain features, like the ability to sign up for new accounts, still weren't working.

Getting there.

Bad news for Sony...

The patience of PlayStation 3 owners is wearing thin as retailers are reporting a 200% increase in PlayStation 3 trade-ins, usually for Xbox 360 consoles, as well as sales slumps for PSN points cards and fewer multiplatform game sales for PS3.

In the first week of downtime we did not really see any major change in sales or trades,” says one source, a store manager at a major UK retailer speaking on condition of anonymity. “However from the second week onwards we have seen an increase of over 200 per cent on PS3 consoles being traded in, split almost 50/50 between those trading for cash and those taking a 360 instead.”

Another UK source has reported that the independent retailer had seen a “massive increase” in the volume of PS3s traded in in recent weeks, and has pegged the biggest trade-in demographic as “the hardcore online shooter crowd”, who are logically the group most likely to defect when their online gaming is wiped

Belgian-based Gameswap spokesman Tom Mestdagh went on record to state, “At the end of each month people come to sell their consoles. People that need money (to pay bills). What’s different this time around is that that they are bringing in PS3s together with all their games and they don’t want money, they want an Xbox 360. In every case it is because of Black Ops and or Modern Warfare 2.

I think a few people are a little addicted to their console and COD games.

Game purchases have also been markedly affected by the PSN outage. Sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops went from 44% for the PS3 in the first two weeks of the game’s release to 24% of sales of Black Ops last week. Similar trends have struck games like FIFA 12.

How is that surprising? Ooh, big shock! The game isn't selling as much as it did on release, which was 7 months ago. Really, some of these articles are fucking moronic.

And FIFA 12 isn't out yet.

The Black Ops numbers are comparative, not cumulative. Why would it suddenly be selling half as many units compared to the 360? Answer: PSN is down. They're saying sales of Black Ops for PS3 were once almost half of total sales for that game, and now it's down to a quarter (presumably in favor of the 360.)

Generally speaking, market share per console for a multiplatform game should remain steady unless there's a major change in console market share.

This and yes I hope the article mean't FIFA 11  though to be fiar I didn't notice the mistake.

I assume the retailers taking those trade-ins will be making quite a hefty profit when the PSN is back and those ex PS3 owners start to regret that one moment of madness that led them to trade it all in.

Considering you can get a 250gig 360 for £150 here in the UK and a 160gig Ps3 is going for £200, i think some are going to be very unhappy if and when they try to trade up again and it costs them cash.

But as the old adage goes.."a fool and their money".

Sales of Black Ops have been falling on the PS3 for ages. It has less to do with the fact that PSN is down, and more to do with the fact that the game is a buggy mess on the PS3. Something that has been widely reported and commented on since Christmas. Go on any PS3-related message board, or Treyarch's boards, and they're filled with people complaining about how inferior the PS3 version is compared to the 360 and PC versions.

Some things are a little obvious as to why they aren't selling, like games with online modes and PSN point cards when the service isn't working. I really feel sorry for those who bought Portal 2 and haven't been able to play it yet and link it to their Steam account.

On the other hand, I did just buy GT5 for my Brother who has his Birthday next month.

Not knowing anything about the game itself, I'll have to take your word for it being crap on the PS3. I guess a more illuminating bit of information would be how steep a dropoff this is compared to prior months--continuation of a trend that was already there, or a sudden plunge attributable to PSN being down? With only two data points it's hard to be sure.

The PS3 version did seem to be a bag of crap though the PC version is riddled with issues too. I have a friend who plays for a clan and they are still waiting for mod tools I think for their servers. The 360 version is supposed to be the best but to be honest I thought the killcam lag problem as I call it was way worse in Black Ops than MW 2...

If the 360 is supposed to be the best version, I would hate to see the level fo quality in the PS3 version.
