Moffat - "you can imagine how much I hate them"

Well, I was referring mainly to story and character spoilers. I don't really consider seeing the new Enterprise or the new TARDIS before the show begins as a 'spoiler.' I like to see the new Enterprise or TARDIS ASAP, too.

And that's the problem right there, everyone has a different defintion of what a Spoiler is.

The makers of DW don't consider revealing that Episode 13 is
set in an alternate universe where the Roman Empire still exists and is led by Winston Churchill who is still alive thanks to Silurian science and which also features Cybusmen and Cybermen
a Spoiler but they do consider that revealing that
River Song is really River Pond
is one.

But how can you really tell what to believe, what is actually spoiler vs what is a red herring, until the episodes actually air? Of course photographic and video evidence" would seem to buttress some of the claims, yet it's not really worth all this excitement until the episodes are shown. Then we have demonstrable proof of what was a "spoiler".

True that the definition can vary from person to person.

Oh look, DW Brand Manager Ed Russell confirms that the Today Show's report's multiple spoilers, sorry "teasers", were done with their consent.
If what Russell talks about in this tweet...
No. It's the people that follow us around on set and post bits of dialogue, film and photos that are the problem
...is really a problem for the production team, then maybe they shouldn't film so much of the series out in the open, because then their problem would go away.

Seriously. Just stop filming Doctor Who in front of a live audience, Moffat, and your spoiler problem will go away, and the only thing you have to worry about are leaks from the inside. And that's what coded scripts, chains-of-cusody, and NDAs are for.

More Alien Planets would mean less public filming. A win for eveybody I'd have thought.

And I still can't believe they chose to film that scene from Episode 13 out in the open.

Maybe I'm reading way too much into this but is it possible that what seems like "just asking for it" is really deception on Steven Moffat's part?

Murdoch and The Daily Mail would love that one. "BBC Wastes Thousands Shooting Fake Scenes Scandal."

Depends on the source for me and if the it's repeated from more than one person, there's plenty of leaks and Moffat himself has given out some infomation. Of course the BBC leaked the photos of the Doctor's death in The Impossible Astronaut before it aired so he can't just blame the fans for the spoilers.

... I knew several things before Series 6 started, in large part due to what was revealed in here and my having to be up on things in the forum ....

Hmmm ... there's a burden I never even considered! Yet another reason I'd curse anyone who ever invited me to be a moderator.

On the other hand, does that mean there's an increased chance of getting away with bad behavior if it's hidden in spoiler code?

Sure he can. What is released early as teasers is a creative decision. If the BBC wanted something to use as a teaser and they posted something that Moffat hadn't approved or wanted then that is an internal issue between the production staff and BBC marketing. They have to hash that out internally. It has nothing to do with leaks and spoilers from other sources.

Yeah...I'm not clicking on either of those. :p

I'm not sure that's entirely right, because other spoiler material has pteranodons, and also Mammoths show up. Unless of course they were frozen with the Silurians. Perhaps the timelines are all screwed up somehow. Makes you wonder if the Meddling Monk is somehow involved, wasn't there an old rumor that Patrick Stewart was going to play him?

Oh that Moffat. He seems to be pretty expert at distracting the forum fans by pushing their buttons.

I guess that after going to the series numbering well twice he thought he'd shake it up a bit.

I remember as GTD moderator, I wanted to avoid spoilers for the new Trek movie. Luckily, I wasn't in the Trek XI forum, so I had a bit more leeway. There was already a sticky that said don't discuss it in GTD, go to Trek XI. I posted a reminder about a week before not to post spoilers or else there would be consequences. Then, for about 48 hours right around release, I avoided the forum entirely (you probably could have posted porn and I wouldn't have known).

I don't tend to have a problem with spoilers as for me it all comes down to context.

Moffat can't do anything about that we all know that that kind of thing bothered JNT as well. But he can't control what's done on the Today Show either for that matter. So there's really very little has control over.

I think he was just ranting and knows he can't do anything about spoilers. The fact that he poked fun of his rant in a tweet speaks volumes. Once again we seem to be over-blowing something that really doesn't need to be discussed to death.

Pretty much my feelings on the subject

Good for him!

From what I see on here, some Doctor Who fans are nuts!!!

He makes a show that I enjoy and I, and I feel most, viewers don't care about the 40 other years of stories because it's been 40 years!

Make the show make sense, be fun and enjoyable and have fun while watching it, and if one line fro man episode from 1967 that has since been lost says that can't happen, ignore those "fans".

Exactly. People are blowing this way out of proportion. He was frustrated, and some newshound just happeend to choose that moment to shove a mic in his face.

He's a tv writer, not a diplomat.
