Arrest yon scary-hare and clap the beggar in irons, then mek 'im walk the rabbity plank!

Oh, you meant Doctor Who?

Pirates?! Arrrrgggghhhh!! I wasn't expecting them until May 20; where's Captain Jack?

Seriously, looking forward to this at 9:00 P.M. my time on BBCA.

:techman:

Just a little off topic, but I'm watching the lead-in show, Don't Scare The Hare, for the first time at the moment. Damn, it's really, really bad - I mean, really, really bad!

Doesn't the Hare make for a good Doctor Who monster, though? What little I have seen of the show reminded me a bit of the shows on Satellite Five in Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways.

I just hope its not the usual standard 'aliens who've lost their home planet are here to take over the Earth' story. We've already seen The Unquiet Dead amd Vampires of Venice (among others).

Boring. Another episode that seemed to revolve around AMY LOVES RORY. Then The Doctor lets a bunch of murdering, raping, pillaging pirates fly off with FTL.

I bumped it up to a "Mermaids?" because it seemed to improve in the last ten or fifteen minutes. It really wasn't terribly engaging. Storyline and acting were both a bit off, imo. This may be this year's Victory Of The Daleks - one that you really need to be a kid to enjoy. Ah well, wasn't expecting much anyway. Next week's looks good, though.

Fair episode. It had enough plot holes to fill a pocket universe (unless I missed it, when did the pirate who got slashed by the kid get caught by the Siren? He just disappeared. And then the fact that almost anything's going to reflect something) and everyone lives yet again.

But I did enjoy it for the beginning and end at least, and the Siren was an interesting concept, but nothing completely new either. The middle was a veritable cliche storm.

A nice classic 'base under siege' story. Obviously wasn't going to reach the heights of the two-parter, but enjoyable.

a nice solid standalone. Not hugely original, but pleasant, with a gorgeous "monster", good moments, and a great guest star. Works for me, and I really hope we see Avery and his crew - well, just Avery, really, but I don't mind if they come along - again.

The mirrors thing seems to be part of the season arc - there were a lot of them around in the previous story as well.

Ah, and another appearance by this Miss Kovarian person... I suspect that the BBC's own description of the episode after next actually gives the game away as to some of this:
According to the BBC, Gangers is about when people create doppelgangers for dangerous work, but when something happens to the original, the 'ganger gets their memories - so are they really the person, or just a malfunctioning tool. I think what we're seeing with Kovarian is a hint that we're not sure whether these are Amy's memories, or her ganger's memories of the original her... Which means the reason the TARDIS doesn't know whether she's up the duff is because presumably one Amy is or was, and the other isn't or wasn't, but remembers being so...

So, another 8/10

Pointless appearance from this year's Crack: Tick.

Rory "dies" again: Tick

Child shoved into a story because Moffat thinks children only like DW when it has children in it.*: Tick.

Zzzzzz.

*Call it "The Phantom Menace" syndrome.

ETA- as for the person who we didn't see getting got, well, they established outright that everybody would be, so I don't mind if we miss seeing one cos they had to fit in the timeslot...

Was the comment about the ship being in another universe just a throw away comment or what? I thought other alternate universes were sealed off.

Yeah I presume it was cut for time but given that the last we saw of him he was resealing the door and then the Doctor & Avery ran back to warn them all about the mirrors, which they did, it was a particularly glaring error.
