X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

Because some fans would like to see the characters be realized as true to the material as possible. And I just don't see the sense in making Moira and Banshee American. If they wanted an American team, they should have stuck with the original five. I would have been very happy with an original five movie.

^ I agree with you btw. I just don't allow that kind of stuff to deter my enjoyment of the film. I would have been more than pleased with an original five film too...hence my early posts in this thread over disappointment that we wouldn't see them. I guess though if this is a trilogy it's possible we will see them eventually.

I don't know why it bothers me so much. It just does.

If there is a trilogy, I wonder if they'll do some version of the "All-New, All-Different" X-Men. They're sticking to the continuity of the movies so adding new characters might be a problem. They could include Cyclops, Jean, and Storm though.

That being said, the characters trailers look good and I think the movie has promise.

I like how folks are complaining that the characters have been Americanized, but how many of them are being played by Brit or European actors? I think that balances it all out.

Man, I really can't wait until this comes out, if for nothing else other than the new thread will be started and people won't be complaining about how many pages they have to read. Some forums retire threads and being Part 2s after x amount of pages, maybe we should have done that 50 pages ago?

Yeah, I mean, like totally, how can we you know, like, type and read and stuff, to like communicate and then go and expect everyone to like totally read everything or something, I know like for real. ;)

I really enjoyed the character trailers. It was nice to see some stuff focusing on characters other than Magneto and Xavier. I hope we get trailers like this for more of the characters.

I would like to have seen Banshee played by an Irish actor. But once they got an American to play him, I'd rather see him just do his normal accent, than listen to another Tommy Lee Jones/ Richard Gere/ Tom Cruise mangling of an attempted Irish accent.

Of course, I've always thought that the character is a bit silly, not least of all in that in Irish mythology a Banshee is actually female.

Americanizing? Maybe, but it should be noted that (actors aside) the two lead characters are not American (even though, Professor X, in the comics, is).

Indeed neither were Patrick Stewart or Ian McKellan and fans didn't seem bothered by that :)

I was referring to the actual characters as opposed to the actors playing them, but, yes. You are correct. Upon reflection though, in the earlier films, the team was more international in general, particularly in regards to Wolvie, Storm (well, in the first one anyway), NightCrawler, and Colossus.

Making the X-Men international was a major aim in replacing the original line-up, when the comic book was revived in issue #94. I'm extremely disappointed that Banshee will not be Irish in the film, since it is contrary to this theme of internationalization under which his character was introduced into the X-Men in the first place.

Having Americanized characters played by foreign actors does not "balance it out." It just makes the Americanization all the more absurd.

Hopefully, the movie won't suffer for this absurdity.

Yeah, Syren should have been named Banshee.

I just figured since there are some scenes of them in the UK, unless it was just shot there and meant to be seen as another location in the context of the movie, then that would have been where Moira and Sean would be recruited.

Professor X is American in the comics, but he's always been portrayed as a Brit in the movies. :shifty:
As was Magneto.
The question is, are they being portrayed as Brits or just a symbol of being well educated?

Yeah, Syren should have been named Banshee.

I always assumed it was based on the pitch in which each one used their power.

Banshee- shrieks while Syrin -singings
Like his ability would be closer to shouting while her's was more harmonious.
