I don't think that's fair. Obama was just continuing what Bush began.
MSNBC said that Pakistan scrambled F-16s to intercept the helicopters as they were departing the compound, but we were able to contact them in time to call off the attack.
One of the helicopters carrying the SEALs was hit by ground fire as the SEALs were roping down to the ground inside the compound, but it was able to land and get everyone off. Another helicopter held in reserve was then called in to pick up the SEALs on the way out and the damaged helicopter was destroyed with explosives to prevent its capture.

Turns out the compound was less than a half-mile from a military academy. Doesn't sound like the Pakistan government was looking very hard for him.

Woke up this morning to very surprising news. This won't change much on the international stage, but nonetheless, good job. I completely understand the satisfaction it brings to many American families. It took too long, but he got what he deserved.

Some elements of the Pakistani government clearly knew bin Laden was there, but just because there's a military academy nearby doesn't mean they specifically would have noticed anything. I'm pretty sure bin Laden didn't move into the compound with a ticker tape parade in broad daylight and walk to get groceries every day.
Bin Laden could have walked into a NY police station and nobody would have noticed. Prove me the opposite, haha!

Duh. it's why we didn't tell them we were coming in. The compound was huge and everyone know goes "It's of course built to hide important people. They knew he was there and just didn't care. It's why we should have kept going once we made our way through Afghanistan. Pakistan is a terrorist sate with nukes.
Ironically it seems US intelligence found Bin Laden's hideout exactly because it was so inconspicuous, because they thought it was suspicious that such a big house has neither a telephone nor internet connection.

I actually think the reasons that it is mostly late teens and early 20s folks out in the streets is much simpler than that. The news came late at night when most older people who have to go to work on Monday morning were already in bed, and many college students were not. And college students will find any excuse to party - especially if it means avoiding studying for finals. I'm sure they are actually happy about the news, but the fact that they are the ones out partying in the streets is to me, more a reflection on their desire to gather and party for any reason rather than because 9/11 particularly affected their generation. My sister is a freshman in college right now and she hasn't viewed Osama bin Laden any differently than I have (I am 25), she hasn't been living in fear of him like he is a bogeyman. He's just a bad dude to her, like many other bad terrorist dudes.
I also agree with tomalak that seeing people in the streets cheering does kind of make me feel uncomfortable and reminds me of images of people in the Middle East cheering after a terrorist attack. I think that this is good news, but there is still so much other bad stuff going on that it is hard to be excited about just one man's death. I understand that it is symbolic, but I feel more like saying, "good, finally, now let's move forward" rather than cheering.
