I like the Normandy's new paint job, except for the new symbol (not getting into specifics). I kind of wish in ME3 Shepard could have just said "Screw all you various organizations, I'm my own man this time."

Oh well, it's not a game-breaker or anything for me.

    Well,
    the Alliance
were the ones who were taking it apart and rebuilding it, so it's only fair they plaster their symbol over it. Kind of like how you're stuck with the Cerberus signage in ME2, no matter how hard you tell Mr. Illusive to cram it up his smoky, mysterious ass.

Yeah, I know. If I have to fly around the galaxy with somebody's logo on my ship, I'd rather it be this group's than Cerberus'.

It should have flames on the nose, the logo should be a stylized version of Shepard's face, and somewhere, there should be prominent readable text that says

"I DON'T HAVE TIME TO JUSTIFY MYSELF TO YOUR DOCKING TRAFFIC AUTHORITIES. I HAVE A GALAXY TO SAVE"

You know it rather bothered me how freely you were allowed to come and go on the Citadel in a Cerberus ship. Omega and Illium sure, but the Citadel? The Normandy should have been impounded as soon as it cleared the mass relay. For that matter, even being able to visit the Sol System feels a bit odd as one would assume you have to pass through Arcturus first, and that system must be a fortress.

I'm still convinced that BioWare conveniently "forgot" that you have to go through Arcturus to get to Earth. And that Earth isn't the capital of the Systems Alliance.

Well I like that it's just a new paint job and they aren't blowing the ship up again.

^I'm sure that'll happen at some point anyway, I mean it's the last game, no? :p
Apparently it's not just a new paint job but a total refurb inside and out, so it really may as well be a different ship regardless. Not that I'm complaining; just copy/pasting the old hub map would have been exceedingly cheap--even if the basic layout will be more or less the same anyway.

That's a thought actually; what new additions do we all think the Normandy SR2.1 could do with and what could it stand to loose? Personally I vote for it having more than two private quarters. Seriously, did Tali, Jacob, Mordin, Joker, Kelly, Dr. Chakwas and Garrus all have to share a bunk rotation with the rest of the crew? That must have been...crowded. While conversely I think the room dedicated to ejecting cubes of rubbish should go. I mean what happened to omnigel recycling? Did fixing the locks put the omnigel people out of business or something?!

Damn that sound like I'm going to lose my big honking space gun.

Are we sure that part of the ship actually exists outside of interacting with Zaeed becuase one of Shepard and Jacob's conversations totally ignored the fact that the other observation lounge had a bar in it.

I assumed that Kasumi brought the bar with her, along with all of her other crap.

^Which rather begs the question, how she managed to get that stuff on the ship without anyone noticing...?

I don't think it's meant to be scrutinized that closely.

(Less they have some sort of Ultra Violet technology.

The Mass Effect Universe doesn't seem to be a military state, even the so called Dreadnought appeared to simply take licks, it didn't do anything in the attack. The universe isn't perfect but it serves the story just like everything does.

^Would that be the dreadnought that got suddenly overwhelmed by a massive swarm of Geth ships? Yeah, real glass jaw that one.
Despite the name, a single dreadnought is not invincible, it can only operate effectivly as part of a larger formation. In that instance they were taken totally by surprise, not remotely ready to defend against a sudden and coordinated attack. With the Turian fleet cut off and wrecked by Sovereign, it's a wonder the Destiny Ascension lasted as long as it did against such a sustained barrage (or not, if you let it blow up.)

Anyway, none of that has anything to do with being able to spot one ship with terrorist markings plastered all over it or the fact that fleet security *was* greatly increased after the Geth attack.

Leaving aside for a second that I was being a tad facetious, I was thinking more in terms of her collection. I just have an amusing mental image of those crew members sat in the bunk room as Kasumi sneaks back and forth past their doorway carrying paintings, and several boxes of romance novels without anyone, including EDI being the wiser. ;)

Where was the main gun they were talking about?

I didn't have a problem with it surviving but that is all it did.....

    no it doesn't.

In the same place it always was? Firstly, remember we didn't see the whole battle, just the initial volley and later when the Alliance turned up. There's a gap there that could have been mere minutes or hours that we never saw. On the other hand the main gun could have been knocked offline with the first shot.

Secondly, the Destiny Ascension wasn't trying to engage the fleet, they were evacuating the council while the turians engaged Sovereign. You can very clearly see the ship flying *away* from the battle before the reaper closes in, probably making for one of the other mass relays.

Thirdly, a main gun like they is probably only effective against large and preferably stationary targets, like cities and space stations. It wouldn't do a lot against a swarm of smaller ships. At best it would only take out a handful, if they don't just simply swerve to avoid the projectile.

Fourthly, the ship does open fire if you look carefully (around 0:36). It may be the main gun, it may not, there's no way to tell, but we did see it get a few shots off.
