of course, i dunno about you, but i don't repeatedly watch it, im sure a lot of people have never seen it, so over time there will still be a lot of people who have never seen it, kind of a weak plan, works in the short term well, but the long term meh
I noticed this episode didn't have that that pre-titles Amy intro -- at least not on the SPACE broadcast here in Canada. Did BBC America have it again?
that isn't how it really is though
I know. Just like Irish aren't stupid, and Finns have a sense of humour, and not all Brit drink tea. Personally, I think it was silly making the plot depend on it in this story, but 'kill on sight' doesn't work in an enviroment where very few people go armed.

But is the Doctor's goal to have The Silence slaughtered or is simply to put the fear of the God into them in the hope they'll scarper before they run into some-one who's armed.
Yeah well, it is Doctor Who.As others have said, the more you look at this, the more it falls apart in your hands, despite it being a fun romp at the time.
Yeah, and Doctor Who often does have jumps of logic you just have to go with, but not usually this many, and it doesn't fall apart so much under the slightest thought.Yeah well, it is Doctor Who.As others have said, the more you look at this, the more it falls apart in your hands, despite it being a fun romp at the time.![]()
It doesn't sit well with me that the Doctor sets out to destroy them without asking what their aims are. It seems out of character for him - this is the man who gives everyone (including the spider queen) a chance of an alternative.

He did give them a chance. He gave them one chance to surrender and leave peacefully. They refused. As you noted, they are all automatically armed, and, frankly, they're all part of an occupying army. That means that there's no such thing as a Silent noncombatant. Thus, with the possible exception of any Silent children, any Silent on Earth is a legitimate military target.

Moffat's 'Who' has been described as taking the show back to the 'scaring the kids behind the sofa' days of the original, but will an eight year old be able to follow this? Anyone want to beg to differ; scare it certainly will, but the plot???
New DH can be enjoyed as pure entertainment

Doctor Hoo?
The Doctor gave the Silents a chance, true, but did the Silents understand what the Doctor was offering? I doubt it. The Doctor offered the Silents a chance to leave to absolve his conscience, because he knew they weren't going to take it.He did give them a chance.
