Yeah, he was the main Vulcan on the high council speaking to Spock. I recognized his voice immediately, though it took me another viewing or two before I recognized him, since he's usually always wearing a beard. Also, I believe his appearance was uncredited in that movie.

Thanks to far too many hours of playing 'Medal of Honor' I keep thinking its time to go shoot some Nazis when I hear him speak. He has such a wonderful voice that its a pleasure to have him appear in anything.

Several months ago, BBC America stopped offering On Demand for many Comcast (Xfinity) customers. The current list is available here. It's a huge bummer because Comcast is the nation's largest cable provider, but BBCA isn't on many systems (including all of California).

Anyway, that's water beneath the bridge. I bought at season pass from iTunes and am rocking the series that way (which is probably part of BBCA's strategy).

I was wondering if anyone thought the Silent were somehow related to the Ood? The head design looks fairly similar (especially around the eyes). I thought I spied an Ood in the teaser trailer after "A Christmas Carol." (Actually, I just watched it and there is an Ood with Gatorade-colored eyes, carrying a lime-green-lit globe).

Actually, I was initially creeped out by the Silent, but I imagined them as hostile Ood (well, hostile-er) and much of the fear went away.

Still, an above-average premiere. I wasn't quite ready to give it the highest marks, but it kept me entertained for the whole 43 minutes.

I suppose in a way it is, but I've always found that The Girl in the Fireplace and The Eleventh Hour are basically the same story.

The plots are similar in broad terms, sure, but it's really not the same story. "The Girl in the Fireplace" is a love story about loss and grief; "The Eleventh Hour" is an adventure story, pure and simple.

Having the Silent be related to the Ood could be interesting-it's been established (By RTD mainly in background information, although I think it's also mentioned in Planet of the Ood) that the Ood are related to the Sensorites from the very first season of the original series.

Consider the similarities:
-The Doctor meets first appears to someone as a young child who thinks of him as their imaginary friend.
-He visits them throughout their lives. Okay, The Eleventh Hour only features him meeting Amy twice after childhood, but whatever.
-Both the main girls being haunted all their lives by something in their bedrooms. The Clockwork Droids and the Cracks.
-Both feature the line "You've had some cowboys in here."

I knew the guy that played the older Canton was a perfect cast for an older version of Mark Sheppard, but I didn't connect the dots that William Morgan Sheppard is Mark Sheppard's father!!!!!!!!!!

There is a mystery patch on the astronaut suit's right side when it comes out of the lake. The patch on the suit's left is the appropriate Apollo 11 patch. The patch on the suit's right side *should* be the regular NASA logo patch. Instead, it's a completely different patch that doesn't match any mission or program patch that I could find.

This other patch appears to depict a seated figure holding something, has a blue field, and a golden frame. Very distinctly different than the NASA logo.

Does this mean something in the story? Maybe this is from an alternate history where NASA doesn't exist. Or, could they not use the NASA logo for some reason? I haven't seen this discussed anywhere online but I haven't really looked. Any ideas?

But it's the barest thematic match at best. Interesting they use one set of authentic patch art and one completely bogus.

Well, she did say the Monster was trying to eat her. I'm not saying she was in danger of literally being eaten, as the Vashta Nerada did in the Library, but, my assumption is whatever that monster was, may be what's animating the space suit.

Spoiler: speculation

If River is the little girl (and/or Amy's daughter, though not sure how Amy's daughter is living 40+ years in the past) maybe the monster isn't truly a monster, but, a temporal whatchymacallit, that has two versions of the same person occupying the same space, thru some wibbly-wobbly thing
