Crysis 2

I am thinking about getting it because I have heard great reviews and it looks good, but before I shell out $60 bucks I would like to hear about it from anyone here. Does it live up to the hype? Is the single player mission long or short?

I usually wait about a year before buying new games. Then the price has dropped immensely, there will be patches, and my hardware will be up to date.

I'm buying it for the PS3. I will pay $60 for it if the single player campaign is long, but if it is short like Homefront's was then I will wait until it is cheaper.

The singleplayer is fairly long (I think 10-15 hours, possibly far longer depending on difficulty and your tactical approach) and pretty challenging even at the second lowest level once you get past the first few tutorial levels. The only real downsides to it are the save system (completely checkpoint based) and the sometimes confusing navigational cues (sometimes you get really close to a point where you are supposed to go, but from the wrong direction, so you waste time hiding and recharging your energy before searching for the proper route).

Oh, and sniping guys with a silenced carbine while cloaked feels awesome.

Thanks! I traded in a bunch of old WII and XBOX360 games and got enough to get a ussed copy of it. It is a pretty good game so far. I am really impressed with it. I am still in the early levels. I just entered the subway and climbed up into a building, but that is as far as I have gotten.

Ugh, I smell that's because of the consoles.

I'm not sure why it necessarily has to be that way because of consoles. Fallout 3 and New Vegas are two games that let you save at any point on a console.
Well, given all the various technical things that scroll on the screen whenever you load the campaign, I suspect the sheer amount of stuff they put into each level had something to do with it.

I just picked it up as well. At first I was going to get the PC version but I decided I didn't want to deal with the headache of getting it to run properly. As such, I just stuck with the 360 version.

I have watched gameplay footage and it looks awesome! Especially with that stealth mode! Definitely going on my wish list.

Still having a blast with it. Can't really figure out the story involving the military and my character, but right now I am having fun blasting away aliens.

I'm absolutely loving this game. The campaign so far is lengthy enough without feeling like it's running out of gas, and has enough sandboxy fun to give it plenty of replay value for later. I do feel like a bit of a dirty heathen for playing this on the Xbox, though. I'm sure my computer would run it, but I'm finding it harder and harder to want to come up and game on the PC after sitting at one all day at work.

I'm loving it so far. It is a great looking game and fun to play. I like a lot of the functionality changes that they made from the first game. My biggest fight is remembering what the new controls are... after spending all weekend flying through the first game and the expansion, I'm having a hard time training myself to remember that you change weapon mode with 2 and not 'X', which does something else entirely. I've been trying to do the multiplayer a little bit and that's going to take a lot of getting used to... it's so much more fast-paced and more "complex" to strategize for than normal shooters. I'll get there eventually.

Playing it right now and it's a blast.

I love the suit options (though until the shit has hit the fan.. don't want to spoil the story) i was mainly using the stealth options and a silenced gun.

It runs remarkably well on my 2 year old laptop (not the cheapest one back then but also not the most expensive) apart from the cut scenes explaining the next mission which are totally garbled for some reason but i skip them usually since there's enough explanation in-mission what you have to do.

The downside as has been said is the save system.. it's just annoying to fight through all enemies, possibly take out a big one only to be shot by the last dude and having to replay from the last checkpoint.. that's just bad game design and there's no technical excuse for it.

Apart from that i can wholly recommend it.

^I think the best part of the stealth game is not even needing the weapons. There's been two or three occassions where I snuck around and killed everyone (the most notable example was at the church) without ever firing a shot or getting fired at. They really did improve the stealth functionality a lot over the first game.

I think the garbled mission briefings are just a general issue. I have a pretty good computer and I face the same issue... though if you check the mission briefings in the unlock section, they'll play just fine.

But the Stealth Mode is still only for a limited time before you need to reload energy, isn't it?

Yeah, but there's usually plenty of cover around, so you can hide behind something, drop cloak, recharge, and keep moving.

And in this game, your energy last so much longer when you're cloaked. That was one of the more frustrating parts of the first game's stealth aspect- the energy drained insanely quickly if you're not sitting still and watching. In C2, you can cover a lot of ground and potentially get in two or three stealth kills before you need to hide and recharge.

After watching a few videos, this game has caughty my eye as a PS3 purchase later in the summer, whats online like ?
