Just wondering how many Westerners are going to wake up super early to watch the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton live. It takes place next Friday (Apr. 29th) and they are getting married at 11 AM in London... which is really early for the Western world. Lots of American stations are starting coverage at 4 A.M. EST!!! I already told my boss I am gonna skip work that day 'cause I want to watch the wedding really bad. The question is... will I watch it live or repeats later in the day? A big part of me wants to watch it live!!! It's not the same if I just watch a repeat, right? Isn't it kinda like TiVoing the Super Bowl and watching it the next day?

Here is the web-site that I got that coverage info from.

    I'm so excited!!

^ I don't know if this should be in the "TV & Media" section of the Board. If so, can a Moderator please move this thread? Thanks!

    Honestly?

I couldn't care less. I think monarchy is ridiculous and stupid. And when a royal from some other country comes to visit my country (which is a republic) I get pissed because we have to waste money on welcoming the useless royal.

Do we really have to show respect to somebody whose greatest achievement was to be born into the right family?

The elected (!) politicians of my country have to waste their time talking to some random monarch? Srsly?!

    /rant off

Ha! I'm so sick of hearing about it!

It's on my birthday! It's completely ridiculous.

That being said, yes, I will. I'll be drinking a whole lot of caffeine to stay up on my birthday. But still, I did love Princess Diana, and I love how Prince William has handeled this.

I'll watch what is on when I'm up, but won't plan to get up early.

    Quite right.

Does anyone believe this is even real? Meaning, this wasn't arranged beforehand? That's what royals love to do.

Who's getting married again? I don't think I have heard about this.

But seriously, I have no interest what-so-ever. These big celebrity weddings are just empty ways of getting attention and selling magazines, newspapers and tv ad time. The only way I would be curious about this nuptial is if one of them turned out to be an alien or Kate is really a Carl in drag. If it was his man nipple licking brother getting hitched I might pay more attention but I couldn't promise anything there either.

I won't be watching it, though I do wish William and Kate the very best and a bright future for the both of them.

They're a likable couple, but I don't even want to get up early to watch my FRIENDS get married!!! The monarchy seems pretty archaic to me.

Well, in a sense it is a little more than just another celebrity wedding, as William will probably be King someday, so Kate will be his Queen.

That said, I don't particularly care, even though I am a bit of a monarchist myself.

Is that for certain? The spouse of a king isn't automatically a queen (or vice versa), AFAIK.

I mean, why is the Queen's husband (Philip) only a prince? :vulcan:

Because if she had made him King Philip she would have lost her power.

    It's battle of the sexes.

When William becomes king, Kate will most likely become Queen because he would still be in power.

^ Why would William keep his power (if Kate is made queen), but Queen Elizabeth would have lost hers by making Philip king?

This is much more polite than the response I had going through my mind, and it pretty much hits my point.

Because he's male and she's female. Apparently men always take preference.

    And I still don't care!

Because men are the "dominant sex"

And the king would have the power, the Queen wouldn't.

It's lame. But men still don't really trust women with power.

    ^ Oh. :alienblush:

I agree, it's stupid. Especially since most royal marriages are prearranged anyway. Or do they really still do that? Did William really choose Kate? (For that matter, did Charles choose Diana?)

^ Because in a King-Queen relationship the King holds the power. In a Queen-Prince relationship the Queen holds the power. It is a hierarchy. Of course I am not an expert, so someone else can probably answer your question better than I can.
