my point is simply, nintendo is behind the times, because they chose to sit out (even after providing hardware). Nintendo felt that rather than spend time/resources on online gaming, they should spend it on GBA/GC connectivity.
true the original xbox live didnt have an online store. granted xbox live did get a heck of a lot right out of the gate, and as a service, it has grown and evolved an amazing amount. they did have some sort of DLC plan in place for Live on the original xbox, i cant remember when they started charging for it though. but once you have free DLC in place, it's not a big step to start charging for it.
