Fury working for SHIELD had its origins in the James Bond/superspy fad of the mid-1960s so it works perfectly - HYDRA is SPECTRE, and use Stark Industries as the folks who supply the cool cars and guns. But SHIELD is also Bond turned up to eleven - the spy cars use repulsors to fly ala Blade Runner, the guns are Kirby cannons that can take out a stone wall and there are all these robot decoys to tangle with...

plus, Ultimate Fury uses parachute shoes, intangibility, exploding chewing gum (i think Millar ripped that off from MI), invisibility and some other kinda levitation device...

^ I'm glad I'm not alone. I knew that there was a rumored Fury solo movie in the works but that it's not been confirmed yet. Yeah I would play up the James Bond-esque feel of Shield. My idea would be a flashback type of story where Fury is Director in present but through the use of flashback remembers a mission that deals with the present time case. I'd also introduce Carol Danvers with the intention of having her become Ms. Marvel eventually.

Jackson doesn't have the erudition. Neither did Connery, but they worked on it with him til he finally got it.

I thought Stan had automatic cameos in all Marvel films? Didn't know he hadn't already filmed his for Cap yet.

They need to CGI Stan now so that he can automatically appear in every Marvel film forever.

Sequel talk from the writers - they're keeping an open mind as to when it will be set - could be WWII, could be modern era.

like the Ultimate Captain America annual where it flips between Cap in WW2 battling Armin Zola and the present where he battles Zola.

The latest issue of Secret Avengers was a sequence where Cap was in a dream chair reliving a mission, then he was in the present.

Don't see how this wouldn't work in a film.

Hmm, so I guess this means we won't see how he ended up frozen or however they're bringing him into the modern era, in the end of The First Avenger. I had always assumed that was where it would end, but I guess it might not if there's a possibly of the sequel being set in WWII.

I'd love it if they kept it during WWII. This isn't 1964 - poor Steve would get such a shock if he saw America today that he'd have to be put on Prozac.

Considering they don't want to use real Nazis in this film, I don't know what the point of setting a sequel in World War II is. I'd move him to present day by the sequel.

If they're clever think they will, but they'll make clear there are gaps of time in the film (WWII lasted years after all; can't film Cap for all that time during a single movie) in which period sequels can be set. Captions like "Several months later..." or even "A year later..." after he's joined the European theatre open room for further adventures. Or better yet, a montage of Cap fighting his way across Europe, in various places and seasons as the tide of battle dictates.
