I totally got an Indiana Jones vibe from the Captain America trailer and I think that's a very cool thing.

I think most things with Nazi's in them in some form or another remind me of Indiana Jones.

Well, Tommy Lee Jones does talk about sending Hitler to hell, but you're right that there's not a lot of swastikas in the trailer.

It does have the misfortune of opening a week after HP, but even so I think something would have to go very wrong for this film not to make a boatload of cash.

I hope so. The proximity to Potter has made me nervous for Cap finding a sustained audience and solid OW for about 6 months now.

Agreed. Even people that don't know comics know CA, unlike say Thor or Iron Man.

I wouldn't be to positive about how many general public people know of Captain America. He hasn't been the star of any cartoon, a few guest spots at best. So it's not like a generation from the last 20 or so years has grown up knowing him. Even FF and Iron Man had some 90's cartoons.

I'd wager more know of Aquaman than Captain America in general terms. Which is why I think Cap has so much to overcome. The marketing, star and director continues to give me promise though.

I think the uniform is recognizable, even if his backstory is not. I think he has the edge over Thor (although people know Thor in the sense that they know there's a Norse thunder god, his comic is relatively obscure).

For what it's worth, of those 90s comics, Spiderman had a mini-series with Shield and Black Cat and it included a flashback to Captain America and the Super Soldier Serum, so at least the kids in the 90s who watched those comics and remember trivial details will know the back story.

Either way, I still see this having better general appeal than Thor simply because it involves World War II and Nazis.

We've probably not seen any Swastika's because that's not the logo Hydra uses I pretty sure I caught a glimpse of the Hydra logo when they were all doing their Nazi.

I would really go for a "Nick Fury: Agent of Shield" film for Sam Jackson. I doubt that it would ever happen but I think now they could pull off such a feature if written correctly and treated as a serious project. I know Jackson has a reported nine film deal with Marvel Studios. I know that I've had a few ideas of my own regarding a Fury solo film.

The more I see of "Captain America: First Avenger" the more excited I am for it over "Thor". I think reading the leaked script for "Thor" actually hurt my excitement of the film. Probably the one case in a long time where that's happened for me.

They ought to do Fury as a James Bond type movie - play up the gadgets a bit, but keep the costumed critters out of it as much as possible.

Me too, That would be pretty cool. And from what I've he's supposed to play a really big role in The Avengers, so it sounds like we'll be getting he'll be getting quite a bit of screen time. Which is fine by me, I've really enjoyed the character.
