I never knew... (Spoilers for the Destiny Trilogy)

My own bookstore is a good two hour walk. But I have no job and make little to no money, but when I go to school in August, that should change and I can check out their library.

^ Destiny is an amazing trilogy of books; highly recommended. Give it a try :)
The question is how many other Trek books would you need to get in order for the events to make sense, seeing as how they are so interconnected you can't seem to just pick one a random one and enjoy it any more.

grumble...grumble...

Ideally, none. Anything you need to know for the story is explained in the story itself. Look at "The Cage." The episode began with the crew recovering from a previous adventure, and a lot of the story was driven by their memories of that adventure, but you didn't actually need to see the mission to Rigel VII to understand the story of "The Cage." It's the same way with the books. Yes, the books refer to stories that were published earlier, but that doesn't mean you can't figure out what's going on if you haven't read those earlier stories.

The interconnection is not intended to alienate casual readers. It's meant merely as a bonus for readers who do enjoy continuity. The goal is to satisfy both audiences -- to make each story complete and comprehensible on its own, while connecting them enough to create a larger tapestry for those who are interested in exploring it.

none what so ever. Lots of people have posted here saying Destiny is the first Trek book they've read in a long time, or they got straight into it without reading any of the other Titan/DS9/TNG/whatever books, and they've all said they read the book with no problem.

^ Are you serious? Just look on amazon.com or something to find out how much they cost. If you are for some reason incapable of doing that, it's $8 per mass market paperback, so you could buy all three for that amount with money to spare.

But you have to not be serious, right?
