I never knew... (Spoilers for the Destiny Trilogy)

KJbushway

Commodore
I got a star trek book for my birthday, it was the one that features all the ships. I was reading about Enterprise when I was suprised to read that the NX-02 was found abandoned in the gamma quadrant. The weird part is that it was the solar system visited by DS9 when they entered the Bojarn wormhole. Apparently NX-02 entered that wormhole and for some reason crashed landed on a planet. How is that even possible? Where did the crew go? Is there any book out there on this?

Re: I never knew

Check out the 'Destiny' trilogy by David Mack for the answer to that question...

Officially, nothing like that happened onscreen. However its entirely up to you as a fan to choose your own 'Continunity'.

Re: I never knew

As Captain M stated, this is answered in the Star Trek: Destiny trilogy of novels. Alternatively, you could visit Memory Beta if you want to spoil yourself and just find the answers specifically. I'd recommend them, though, as they're good books IMO save for a few certain parts.

Re: I never knew

The Dominion knew about the Federation long before DS9, the loss of the NX-02 might explain HOW they found out.

Re: I never knew

^ the NX-02 predates the Federation...

Re: I never knew

There should be something in the title of this post about spoilers.... And this post should be in the Trek Lit section.

Re: I never knew

I was asking becuase she said post instead of thread. I makes mistakes like that sometimes, but I don't see a commodore making the same.

Re: I never knew

Actually this really is a Trek Lit topic since what you are discussing is something from a book.

I have also added "Spoiler" to your title.

Moving now... hang on to your hats.

Re: I never knew

Ok. thanks Astro. I don't mean to cause confusion.
But I do have a question. What do you mean by I put a spoiler in my title?

It sounds like you got the Ships of the Line book, collecting images from several of the annual SotL calendars. The way the calendars work is that the artists are free to create whatever scenes they want involving Trek-universe spacecraft, whether they happened onscreen or not. When they were collected in the book, brief descriptive paragraphs of the stories behind them were added. The image you're referring to was created out of the imagination of artist Pierre Drolet, presumably just because he thought it would be cool to do a picture of 24th-century Starfleet personnel discovering the wreck of Columbia. And for the book, Michael Okuda added the paragraph about it being mysteriously found on a planet in the Gamma Quadrant. This image and description captured the imaginations of readers, so Margaret Clark, who edited the calendars as well as many of the novels, asked novelist David Mack to use it as a starting point for his trilogy, Destiny. So Dave came up with an explanation for that mystery, which you can find by reading Destiny.

That pretty much sums it up. Its called Ships of the line. Thats where I learned about Columbia's fate. I haven't even heard of the star trek book Destiny until now.

^ Destiny is an amazing trilogy of books; highly recommended. Give it a try :)

Not many. I have read all of them there. They have like 5 star trek novels, but a lot more star wars novels. Another reason why I no longer have a library card.

My library has about 5 Trek books as well. But since money is problem for me too considering my huge reading list, I just use inter-library loans. You could just go to your library and ask them to borrow any book from another library in your state or neighboring states. All you have to pay is 2 or 3 bucks shipping. I've read several hundred books by doing this that I could never have afforded to buy.

So they can get loaned books from outside of your city? I'd assumed when people mentioned that the books they were getting had to be in one of their cities library branches.

If the library has branches in several different cities, like the county library here, than a loan between brancehs is also a loan between libraries in different cities.
