2011 MLB Season Discussion

So they won't hit 10,000? Actually, anyone know how close they are? I wonder if they can overtake the Braves and hit it first.

Braves 9,945-9,954
Pirates 9,810-9,684

Braves ARE going to have 10,000 losses this year. Yikes. Gonna be joining the Phillies in the 10k club.

Royals win their second game 2-1 when Kila Ka'aihue makes a walk-off homerun in the first at-bat in the bottom of the 9th.

Well, the Twins sure started the season ugly. They lost to Toronto 13-3 (worst opening game in Twins history), but it looked even worse- especially that 1st inning. Hopefully Tsuyoshi Nishioka just had an off game. In Japan he was known for his fielding, but he sure was out of sync Friday.

Ah, the hits from the New York Mets keep on coming:

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was forthright when asked about the New York Mets' usage of left-handed specialist Pedro Feliciano last season, calling it "abusive."

...

Feliciano led the majors in appearances the past three seasons, and in 2010, he became just the fifth pitcher in MLB history to make 90 or more appearances.

"He was abused," Cashman said. "It's a thin market when you're looking for lefties, and he's one of the better ones out there. But you don't typically go after a guy who's been used like that. "The use pattern was abusive."

Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen says he is not an abuser.

Warthen said Feliciano's setting franchise records for appearances three straight years (86, 88 and 92 games) was done willingly by the southpaw.

...

"I feel badly that [Cashman] feels that way," Warthen added. "That was part of the reason we decided to not re-sign [Feliciano] -- because we knew we had used him 270-some times in the last three years."
So, let me get this straight ... the pitching coach says the usage wasn't abusive, but then says that the usage is why they didn't try to re-sign him? The cognitive dissonance is ... astounding.

Keith Olbermann took a picture of somebody in the Yankees organization feeding hitters in the on deck circle pitch speeds and types. An MLB no-no. If he gets fired, he can fill in as a Joel McHale impersonator.

Huh. The Jays are looking really good so far. Sure, it's just two games, but they've kicked the shit out of the Twins the past couple days. I don't think they're going to be serious contenders or anything, but if they can put up as many or a few more wins than last year I'll be satisfied.

From up in the 500 level of Rogers Centre, that first inning was great fun. :D Especially Rajai Davis's mad scramble back to first and the double-steal.

I didn't get to see the game today, but I like the approach the Jays are taking at this point. It should make for some exciting baseball this year.

They've got a good young pitching staff (sure stymied the Twins so far) and some good long ball hitters. I don't see Toronto winning the east (tough division), but they'll be competitive.

I sure wish the Twins would have tried to upgrade their starting pitching. They had the money, but pretty much stayed with the same mediocre lineup.

I have 4 more hours of happiness and innocence until the Mets start playing tonight.

:lol::lol::lol:

We always get our hopes up, and the Meh-ts always manage to mess up. :(

I like how even SNY made fun of them the other night with an unauthorized use of a Family Guy clip ripping them.

If your team sucks and tries and has some plan going forward, good for them.

If your team is a smoldering grease fire of an abomination, with ownership crying poor, and $18M tied up in old salary, and questionable injuries year after year, and your stadium pays homage to another team, much less one that old timers in NY hate for leaving for LA, screw 'em. Like a jilted lover finding out your ex has alien space herpes, take pleasure in their misery.

I put the over/under on Jose Reyes at about May 12.

Schadenfreude. Coming to Citi Field this April. First 10,000 fans 14 and younger get a free Yadier Molina bat (c. 2006) and a Commemorative 2007 poster detailing the Heimlich Maneuver.

KM - Mets rehab hotline is available 24/7, PM for details.
