Oh, I know how it started over here originally, Pilgrims & the Mayflower & all that. I was just wondering if, in another instance of creeping Americanism, American Thanksgiving traditions were grafted onto some British harvest festival. It's not an unreasonable question of clarification considering I had been under the impression not so long ago that Halloween was purely an American holiday.
Of course, if you don't have Thanksgiving, it's your loss. That's the holiday with the best Charlie Brown special.

The year the "were-rabbit" thing won the Oscar, I was intrigued. I was unfamiliar with them before, so I went out and bought the dvd shortly after the awards, and watched it the next night.
What the fuck?
Wallace and Grommit are terrible. They weren't funny, they weren't in any way amusing. I watched with a child who couldn't sit through it. I asked friends and neighbors if they were familiar with it ... Nobody "gets" it ... the entire thing is just ... stupid.
I dont get the big love for Wallace & Grommit either.
For me the only Christmas specail worth watching, is the Doctor Who one, and that is new every year, we are not just repating a 3rd Doctor Christmas specail, like they do with Charlie Brown.
A fair few things can be called purely American, Halloween or All Hallows Eve is far far far from being purely American. Yes you may have twisted it into an over zealous marketing event with the intention to sell more rubbish. It in fact dates back to pre-Christian times and thus has existed long before many European Nation states were created, let alone the United States.
As for Thanksgiving? Seriously? Why? If you know why you celebrate it as you said above, why would we celebrate a bunch of Catholics jumping on a boat for the new world and starting over? Basically leaving the Country. To me, it's like us celebrating Bastille Day or Liberation day, we just wouldn't, we're not French or Italian respectively and it has nothing to do with us and to be honest, nor does Thanksgiving!!!!!
Anyway, most importantly, we have enough "holidays" in my opinion.

I'd jokingly say that the United States was settled by Europe's religious nutters, but it's actually true. Seriously, there's a reason for the English to celebrate Thanksgiving. It's a commemoration of how the religious malcontents buggered off, leaving the Mother Country to thrive in peace without them.
Its one of those things you either get or you don't. If you're expecting ROTFL comedy, you're probably going to be dissapointed.

Well, the US incorporates foreign holidays like Cinco de Mayo & St. Patrick's Day. We just use them as an excuse to get drunk, but still...
And if you don't have Thanksgiving, then how do you know when to start Christmas shopping? (Of course, you've probably never had any Walmart-stampede-related fatalities, so you've got that going for you I guess.)

I like a few of them. "The Wrong Trousers" & "A Close Shave" are absolutely brilliant. "A Grand Day Out" is kind of an awkward 1st effort and is really trying too hard to be quirky without being clever. I was kinda less than impressed with "The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" & "A Matter of Loaf & Death."
But "The Wrong Trousers" & "A Close Shave" are probably the two greatest animated movies ever!
