US fans - New episodes start April 23

The SPACE website says the new season will air "late April" and that the exact date will be announced soon, so it look like it could very well be the 23rd also, since SPACE has been showing first-run DW on Saturdays.

Getting excited now. I can hear the Eleventh Doctor's action theme.

da-da, da-da-da-da-da, da-da, da-da-da-da-da
da-da, da-da-da-da-da, da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da-da.

^^Since the British airdate hasn't been announced yet, maybe Space is just waiting for that?

They shouldn't wait until the day before it airs to announce it.

I think it's funny when people look to the US dates for an estimate of the UK airings. I wonder if they'll ever give up that practice.

And you still don't have Thanksgiving, right? Is that still strictly an American/Canadian thing?

Yes it is a North American thing, if you thought that we over here celebrated it, do you even know why you celebrate it?

I think it's funny you should assume that.

Doctor Who in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010 began on Easter Saturday, it even had one of the specials on that day in 2009. So, looking at that, regardless if the BBC Press Office have announced a date for the new series or not is mute.

It's beginning on April 23rd around 7pm on BBC One because that day is Easter Saturday.

Just because BBC America have already announced when they are airing it is just coincidental.

I'm sorry, Dimesdan. I shouldn't be laughing, but my gosh that was hilarious. And you're right, too many people forget their own history.

No problem at all, it just seemed a really randomly stupid question. It's like asking if Americans celebrate Fireworks night. It's obvious to most over here you don't, but then you have the odd person who asks.

Wait, you mean they don't celebrate 4th of July over there in the UK either?

:)

We call it "Good Riddance Day" :)

Ah yes, the day that "nothing very important happened" according to the then King, George III.

Before the film of V for Vendetta, I'd say, conservatively, that 99 percent of Americans had never heard of Guy Fawkes. That's a conservative estimate.

After V for Vendetta, 98 percent of Americans have never heard of Guy Fawkes. ;)

I'm sure, in his later years, George III had cause to reconsider the importance of Horatio Hornblower's birth. :)

 Of course, of the 2% that know who he is, only 1% actually knows who he is, while the other 1% think he's a character from V for Vendetta.

Well, SPACE announced today that they will also start airing the new season of DW on April 23rd! Woo-hoo, can't wait! :D

Of course we do, why we all gather round the TV and listen to Bill Pullman's inspirational speech, then we give three cheers for the day we defeated those pesky aliens...

So that's 3 of the 5 major first-run markets showing it at the same time. Now it's up to Australia and New Zealand to try and make it a full set.

The question that remains in the air is what's happening with the second episode. The rumors continue that the BBC will air it the next day; I saw a one-off reference to BBC America airing both episodes the same night (meaning they'd see part 2 before the UK) that I haven't seen anywhere else, and it's anyone's guess what'll happen Canada though I could see them following BBC America's lead.

You haven't heard? Oh, man. I'm sorry. Both Australia and New Zealand announced a few days ago that they are going to air series six as one continuous season later this fall, instead of following the UK and splitting them up. Apparently they will be getting the DVD of the half-season sometime in August, though.

Couldn't wait for April Fool's Day to do this, then you'd know right away ... it's a joke.
