2x12 Twin Destinies

Haven't watched the episode yet. This sounds pretty messed up.

For you maybe but I don't enjoy watching porn. I think it's disgusting and offensive to put such intimate acts up for viewing but then not everyone is a Christian. I appreciate the mental effect and influence it has.

If you can't distinguish between a pertinent sex scene in a TV show and pornography then you have some serious problems.

By "mental effect and influence it has" you mean your hard-on?

That would be a physical effect so unfortunately I have to inform you of the obvious difference.

Sex works just like food and drugs. We have chemical responses to everything and people have different response to those stimulus. Most people like chocolate and sweets, some aren't particularly tempted by them at all. But as a whole sex is a desirable euphoric response for most people. Sight and sound are highly effective lures and suggestion. But tempting yourself will usually lead to indulging in the behavior.

Oddly we just talked about cheating behavior and where it's origins come from and this really does fit those signs.

And what did you mean by influence?

And I love how you just connected watching sex scenes on TV with cheating on your partner. Awesome.

Everything you see and hear makes a mental impression, it shapes your thinking and your behavior sometimes in subtle ways sometimes in glaring ways.

The concept of the slippery slope is well understood and can sometimes even be a informal fallacy but in this case it is sometimes true or perhaps even as much as generally true that the slippery slope can be applied to human behavior in groups where as seemingly small steps can lead to significant failures. The slope being the symbolic representation of human nature. We're talking about self control so obviously on our slope it represents are efforts to climb the slope. Many of us have the intention of one day getting married and we imagine that we would be faithful ...many people are of the illusion that they are faithful. Many people believe that cheating (don't know why it's called that) is merely an accident or a mistake, but it's not...it's a choice and so of the 50% of marriages that end in divorse in 5 years or less in America, infidelity, money are in the top 3. Why do so many people imagine they can be faithful and yet aren't...Millions...of people....why?

Probably because a failed marriage doesn't bear the same stigma that it used to. People are more interested in enjoying their lives than keeping up appearances. I seriously doubt there is any correlation between successful marriages and failed ones, and the amount of sexual material the people involved have been exposed to. If a marriage is so frail that it can't survive that then it wasn't one worth having in the first place.

It may not have the same stigma but it's still an undesirable. It's true that people's selfishness and lack of compromise is the cause of failures for irreconcilable difference.

But infidelity within that 50% has an issue with that selfishness aswell. Frankly if sex is equated as having drug like effects in our chemical reactions as we know it does then the average American starts their adult life overdosed with sex from the teens with multiple partners and a variety reasons including mere fun and experimentation. Thus there is a frivolous attitude toward engaging in the behavior. This has two dramatic side effects. 1) Failure to use protection causing unwanted child birth and the transmission of STD's, (2) A lack of solemn appreciation for fidelity.

Obviously pornography and the increasingly flippant popularity toward it would be contributing factor. Experiments show Dogs salivate just like humans do at the mere mention of food. (In other words a tease) Thus the so called Slippery Slope.

The contradiction you mention is quite real.
On the One Hand Marriage would seem to be an out of dated practice considering the above growing problem however humans haven't become less selfish and many maintain an expectation of fidelity even when they can't meet those expectations themselves. Essentially America arealdy is a polygamist society in practice. It wouldn't be the first duplicitous attitude in society.

Well I just saw this on Hulu yesterday and here are my thoughts:

Great episode! Although time travel has been done to death in sci-fi and Star Gate this was a pretty entertaining ep that kept a brisk pace and didn't get bogged down in interpersonal drama. Not that I don't like the drama but its nice to get a break once in a while.

I loved having two Rushs and how even Rush doesn't trust Rush, or how Rush will lie even to himself, literally. I mean, it really seemed like future Rush was hiding something.

It seemed a little convenient to be in need of supplies and have future Destiny remain in their timeline for scavenging.

I wonder what happened to future Rush? Did he learn to ascend while in the chair before Destiny got engulfed by the star? I think he did, and that was his escape plan. I don't see Rush doing it just to learn a few neat things before he dies.

Just to be clear, future Telford is alive back on earth, being the only one to make it through the gate, and present timeline Telford is dead. Right?

Correct on all counts...
...it didn't get bogged down in the interpersonal drama. There was just the right amount...

The chair was doing its steam thing while Rush sat in it, so it appears he was about to be sucked into the computer and TRONifiedlike the last guy.

My theory is that Future Rush uploaded himself into Future Destiny's computer and figured out a way to email himself to Old Destiny's computer just before the end. We'd probably have seen him again once the writers ran out of interesting ideas yet again.
