I have no idea why the British taxpayers tolerate the royal family, but for whatever reason, they do. Don't see any reason they'd be gone by the 23rd century.

I knew a doctor named Chipp St. Kevin Miller. And, of course, names preceded by “St.” or “Saint” are sometimes used as surnames (Jill St. John, Susan Saint James, Raymond St. Jacques). But I’ve never heard of anyone with “St. John” as a first name.My friend's middle name is St. John. Poor chap.
In the U.S., the granting of official titles of nobility is prohibited by Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the Constitution:...OTOH, I could easily see laws being written against the use of titles of nobility, like in modern Germany.
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.
I kind of get annoyed when authors feel its necessary to do that. Why can't it be a Romulan name? Its not like other Trek Aliens dont have names that are duplicates of human ones and aren't in need of a human ancestor to explain them. That's SAINT John Talbot, the book even makes a big deal about this as it confuses Caitlin Dar who can't figure out how Talbot is a saint. She herself is given a back story as to having a human grandfather, thus explaining her human name.
Doesn't one have to be somewhat DEAD to be a considered a Saint, anyway?

Really? If Prince William lives to be 90 he'll die in 2072. That's still a few decades from the 22nd century. Unless he has kids. Does he have kids? Maybe I missed something.
There are well over 2,300 heirs to the British throne, some of whom are only a few years old.Really? If Prince William lives to be 90 he'll die in 2072. But it's not illegal for American citizens to hold royal titles. In the U.S., the granting of official titles of nobility is prohibited by Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the Constitution:
Some modern day indigenous Native American nations have royal houses and IIRC there are also still princes and princesses of the Hawaiian royal family. It’s just that, in America, most people with royal titles are either entertainers or delusional psychotics.
Doesn't that make Sarek a Earl? And Sybok at least a prince himself. In the movie Spock clearly states that Sarek's first wife (Sybok's mother) was a Vulcan princess
