Enterprise grows on you

I've never been the greatest fan of Enterprise and al;ways felt that it was the weakest of all the ST series including the animated. But now I'm wating it firthe fourth time round and find that it grows on you after a while. I still believe Archer to be a prat and there were too many two and three part stories, and far too much time spent on temporal stories but there's hope for it yet to become a true ST classic series:rofl:

I understand what the poster is saying. If you are a true ST fan you watch everything. Only in the past year has Voyager moved from the bottom of my list. Still, I've watched it through more than once and bought the series on DVD. There is no bad Trek.

Despite it's flaws compared to other series, I still find something endearing about the show. I consider it a good show, although not a great show, but I still have a soft spot for it. :)

I think the pilot was awfully boring and the first few episodes gave me the impression not just of a fledgling Starfleet crew but of a fledgling crew of writers and producers. As the show continued, the plot and characters developed and grew and became more mature, especially during the Xindi arc, I started to really like it, and held on to this feeling until the end, even with eventual setbacks into childishness such as in "Extinction". Alas, I have not much base for comparison as I've not seen any other series.

I need some shipping fluids, stat!! Her mind is opening!!

Shush. :rofl::rofl::rofl:

I'm almost finished with the first season of ENT and I have come to the conclusion that I must have been bitter that Voyager ended not to like it. Or maybe I'm just growing softer in my age

Or pregnancy has me really easy. :rommie:

But it has grown on me. I'm not sure TAS ever will, or TMP. And FF is good for the camp, but I think I'm becoming and omniTrekker :D

I agree. I still think it's the weakest of all the series, but after a lot of watching it has become only the "less strong" of them, for me. It really does grow on you, because it's quite 'juicy'.

Archer forever a prat though.

I still think it's the weakest of all the series

What arguments support this proposition?
To begin with, the characters are comparatively shallow when compared to the ones in previous series (including Voyager.) The actors also don't do as good a job, in comparison. Plotlines are often weak and a bit too showy, there's less insight into human nature and very simply ... I like the others best, with their own faults and idyosincracies.

But I don't want to get in an ENTvsThe Others argument . We all have our tastes, and they're all different, luckily. ENT is an excellent TV series, but in my opinion when compared to TOS, TNG, DS9 in part and VOY sometimes, it's not as good.

I should add that I'm not a conservative trekker, I welcomed Enterprise as potentially better than DS9 and VOY, but it disappointed me. Again: tastes, not much to do about it.

PS. I just read you have never watched other series. Watch TNG 2X09 "The Measure of a Man", TOS 1X28 "The City on the Edge of Forever" or TOS 1X14 "Balance of Terror". You'll probably see what I mean with plotlines, characters' depth, actors, humanity and so forth.

Thanks for your answer. It's alright if you don't like it, i just wanted to know why people are generally not satisfied with the show. Again, I have no comparison as I haven't seen the other series. Which do you suggest I should watch next?

The original, TNG, and DS9 are all fantastic, in my opinion, and should be watched in that order. Depends what you're looking for, I suppose.

I can definitely agree with the sentiment of this thread, as well. I've been dabbling in old ENT episodes a lot lately, and it's definitely more enjoyable than I remember. It still has it's flaws, of course, and it never really reaches the heights of that TOS\TNG\DS9 trifecta, but I think it's an above average show, on the whole. And easily an improvement on Voyager, as well, in my mind.

My personal suggestion is to watch a few, fundamental TOS episodes (the two I mentioned, then Journey to Babel etc, you may start a thread asking what is a must-watch.) In this way you'll get into the right 'mood', then you'll be able to appreciate TNG, along with TOS probably the best series and much longer. TNG best seasons are the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. Season 1 is a bit anemic, season 2 is almost entirely dispensable except for episode 9, The Measure of a Man, which is my favourite Star Trek episode ever, and a few others. Season 6 is quite okay, season 7 is weak except for 'Lower Decks' and the finale.

This is my personal opinion by the way, although I guess almost everyone in here will agree with what I said, especially regarding TNG 2x09 and seasons 3 to 6 being the best.
You may also want to watch all the episodes in chronological order starting from TOS: it would be a good thing, but be prepared to passing from the beautiful CGI on ENT to some good old 1960s special effects. Once the shock is over, though, you'll start enjoying the characterization, themes and plot. Then, you won't leave it anymore!

Another late convert. VOY will always be first love, though now think less good than first thought, with DS9 having overtaken in the overall best acting/writing/narratives stakes. What I really grew to love about ENT, esp in first two seasons, was how much reminded me of spirit of TOS, especially in 'first contacts' and awkwardness of crew - which I guess was point - but also had a lot of humour. Personally I think it lost some of that appeal when it went down the dark-DS9 route with the Xindi arc, which should have been a three-parter at most, and regained a lot in final series. And poor old Hoshi and Mayweather must be two of the most underused leads in trekdom.

I'm rewatching it for the second time now that I've bought the DVD's... I know it gets better, but season 1 is just badly written.

There is no way, even on their first deep space missions that they would try to make first contact with pre-industrialised planets such as in "Civilization". Even if they were eager and naive, there is no way in real life that they woudl do that. T'Pol made the point that if it happened in Earth their would be mass hysteria, but they were adament they were going.

Totally unbelievable... but it does get better when they become more savvy!
