Infamous Star Trek fans....

Mr. Scott

Commander
Name some infamous, criminal or insane people who are or were big Star Trek fans.....

The Rev. Jim Jones (1931-1978) of Jonestown fame. According to the adopted son, Jim Jones Jr., Rev. Jones and him watched the show with Jim teaching his son to "Vulcanize oneself" as a shield from showing emotion.

Timothy McVeigh (1969-2001) The Oklahoma City Bomber was a big fan of TNG.

How about the weird chick from the OJ trial, the juror who wore her Starfleet uniform all the time (even at work) and was called 'Commander'?

She enjoys Trek and tries to live up to the ideals Roddenberry set out. She volunteers, she's an active part of the community, and she happens to have a uniform. So what?

Seeing as politicians tend to be viewed as infamous by supporters of the opposing party, Ronald Reagan, Al Gore and Barack Obama would all count...

The summer after the last movie came out, I wore a Uhura uniform knock-off to a lot of places, work, classes, shopping, both with and without the insignia.

It was real popular in dance clubs, showed off my legs.

:)

She wears the uniform ALL.THE.TIME. Even at WORK. She even insists that her employees call her Commander. That sound normal to you?

James Traficant? Congressman who ended up in jail. Not sure if he was a fan per se, but he did have 'beam me up' as his trademark closing remark in Congress*.

Politics-wise, Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond is also a huge Trekkie and recently became the first politician to receive honorary membership of StarFleet International.

*Fun fact: Although a Democrat, he voted for Republican Dennis Hastert as Speaker in 2001. Consequently, Democrats refused to assign him to any committee, and Republicans didn't appreciate the gesture enough to assign him any either. He thus became the first congressman (except leadership) in over a century without a committee seat.

how does one go about becoming an 'infamous star trek fan'?

do i have to be famous first, or could i just get a tattoo of weyoun in a really odd place?

Depending on one's political affiliation vis-a-vis the Middle East, how about the King of Jordan? He's not only a huge Trek fan, he was actually ON THE SHOW (the VOY episode "Investigations").

And Stephen Harper.

(The Prime Minister of Canada, for everyone going, "Who?" ;))

Barbara Adams is the woman you're referring to. She is a Little Rock Arkansas native. Very nice lady if a little obsessed, but hey aren't we all! She was chosen for jury duty during the Whitewater Trial in Little Rock back in '96. She gained national attention for allegedly not taking the procedure seriously because she wore a red TNG uniform and sunglasses. In interviews she spoke of simply upholding Starfleet ideals and wished to prove her mettle by wearing the uniform. She wore one to work, public service events and when she did charity work. Not to mention shopping, going out, etc. She is a bit eccentric but she's, by all accounts a hard worker, dedicated employee and community minded.

At least she backs up her fanatacisim, what about us??

No, but neither does it sound insane.

She could be delusional if she insists on being called Commander, and believes that she has earned and legitimately holds that rank.

She was also on camera, and may have been playing up to that. It's just possible, don't you think?

Just a thought (because I can't think of any insane or famous people who are fans....though I have some friends who I THINK are insane that are fans), the phrase "Vulcanise oneself" doesn't mean that person is a trek fan. Do you have another quote or more proof that Jim Jones was a Trek Fan?
