Okay I will nit pick, they said Lincoln Blvd. Easy walkig distance, no need for the bus. Infact it would have been the first freeway onramp for the freeway battle further east where the interchange and bridges are.

As someone who isn't familiar with LA, I'm having trouble following your post. Could you make it a bit clearer? Are you saying Lincoln Bvd was a poor choice of a road?

Sorry I was at work and didn't double check. Lincoln is the first major street running along the coastline maybe 12 blocks from the ocean and everything between Lincoln and the beach was stated as ground zero. Unless the Venice Beach Patrol has a sub station there is no LAPD station, the rescue site that far west. Maybe Santa Monica PD has something. By the time they got to the freeway bridge battle they were near UCLA and well clear of the impact area so speed wasn't as much as a factor for infantrymen who depend on stealth by nature.

So the whole thing was geographically challenged? It doesn't change the premise of my comment, but that's pretty bad considering almost every movie is filmed there, so they should have been able to figure that out.

Generally, I judge the quality of a film by its ability to make me forget I have to take a shit.
Sadly, this film failed in that regard, so I have to give it a thumbs down.
Shame really...

That's an oddly effective way to judge a movie.

However, for me, it'd never work since I pretty much never leave a movie to use the restroom no matter how good/bad it is.

Well they said it was the number one movie in the world last week. Only 15 million or so people are aware of the geography of Santa Monica CA and the freeway system running east of the city.
 
The GF and I went and seen it over the weekend, I enjoyed it well enough.
Nothing we haven’t seen before in Independence Day or War of the Worlds but still entertaining , this time we see it more for the military standpoint.


My only issue is they hired a guy that just got his first camcorder to shoot the movie for them, GAWD I wish that Shakey-cam style of filming would die already.


When I pay $10.00 + X's 2 to see a movie I actually want to SEE the movie and not Ground, leg, sky, blur, wheel, too much of a close up, glimpse of alien, blur, splosion, leg, sky, ground. Ughh so annoying.


Does anyone REALLY enjoy that type of filming?

B- for the lazy filming and re-used ID4 script.
Still a good popcorn film though.

It had another good weekend.
In 10 days it's made $60m on a $70m budget. Depending on it's legs it could push towards $100m.

If you think this was bad shakey-cam, you haven't watched bad shakey-cam. (Cloverfield anyone?)

Since this film was from the grunt perspective, the filming style was appropriate for what it was trying to portray. We are meant to see the events from their perspective as much as possible, not from a distant "god" viewpoint.

Probably won't hit $100mil - it had a pretty big (60%) dropoff from last weekend to this one and likely will drop off quite a bit next weekend too.

Not a fan of shakey-cam myself. It's a crappy way to save a few bucks on your FX and the whole "in the trenches" perspective has been done to death, rarely effectively.
 
Luckily I had a free pass to see this awful movie... so I don't feel bad for spending any dollars on such dreck. *oy*

And yes, PLEASE -- No more gadds-dang Shaky-Cam!!!

Poor Aaron Eckhart, that's all I'll add.

To be fair, the shitty one was made first. Maybe Neroon will do us a solid and change the title to the more comprehensible one.

Yeah, it's probably as good as if not better than the theatrically released one. At least you'll get a good laugh out of this one.
