It's amazing to me how bad the SFX look in the Asylum trailer, visual effects got their big kick-off in 1991 with Terminator 2 and really came alive two years later in Jurassic Park, both movies have nearly flawless SFX that's hard to see flaws in today. So how is it that even a low-budget, direct-to-video movie made two-decades later has shittier effects than Terminator 2?

Uh, because it's a low budget direct-to-video movie that no one is going to watch as an effects extravaganza.

And visual effects did not get "their big kick-off" with Terminator 2 - that's wrong even if what you meant was CG effects, and since you didn't specify that it's just so completely off base as to be silly.

Jesus Chri...

Of course I meant with CGI effects.

And computer-generated imagery for special effects got its biggest boon in the 1990s and Terminator 2 is one of the moth noteworthy examples though "The Abyss" may be notable too coming out a couple decades before, but T2 was a bigger movie and a bit more ambitious in the use of them, then with Jurassic Park in 1993 was one of first time full animated, fully realized, computer-generated creatures were brought to the screen.

My point is that computer generated effects have been around for the better part of the last two decades you'd think even a cheap studio would be able to produce something halfway decent looking. It doesn't take a super-computer or engineers with decades in the field to produce great-looking effects, there's probably kids working in their dorm-rooms right now who can produce something far more photo-realistic than the crap in that trailer. Hell movies like "District 9" and "Skyline" -both movies with small budgets but laudable effects- show how inexpensive great CGI can be.

^ Exactly. This maybe the first thread created but the other thread Jetfire created was the official discussion thread and now people are bitching about it being merged into this thread. Doesn't make sense.

Anyways as to the movie, I've not seen it yet. I've read that it has mixed reviews. Most people seem to think it an average film at best. The score is great though, Brian Tyler composed it. I'm a big fan of his. He knows how to compose great action scores.

No, I was being a bit facetious. I honestly didn't even notice the score while watching the movie. Sometimes I just forget to turn off my sarcasm.

So, the threads get merged and we end up with the abortion of a thread title that can't even get the name of the film right? Well done.

Spam, er, PM the SCI-FI forum's mods to come in and edit the title to something more comprehensible. Yeah, the point of merging the threads was to get rid of the horrible title, yet at the same time, it's board policy to merge the "new" thread into the old one. That's pretty much what happened here and whomever merged the two didn't "grasp" that the original thread was a piece of shit.

Oh heaven's my. There's a misspelling in a thread title. Quick, stop the presses, alert the President, and hide the women and children because the world is about to come to an end!

Hate to break it to you guys, but this isn't a scholastic auditorium with a gathering of the world's greatest minds debating the pros and cons of terribly important things that will impact humanity throughout the ages. You're on a fan site, talking about spaceships and aliens and laser beams.

Not everyone is a literary superstar. Get the fuck over it.

Considering the hubris-on-parade with the rude treatment of timothy, there shouldn't be much surprise - if any at all - that I elected to stick with his original subject title when merging these threads. Next time, just politely ask about taking care of things. If you have any further comments, please take them to PM.

Let's just get back to the topic at hand, being the movie itself.

I thought we were supposed to speak English and be a certain age here, neither of which the OP seems to be. Not being rube, being rube would involve name calling, all his threads make very little sense and you can hardly even tell what he is talking about.

Can I start posting in Latin or German? Neither one I'm very good at, but it would still look better than this topic title, and it seems English isn't needed.

And well said Trekker.

The OP of the poorly title thread's other threads are notoriously terrible in syntax, spelling, and grammar. It's hardly ganging up on the new guy, or being sticklers to grammatical form, it's going after someone with a pattern of behavior. I think a certain degree of "form" is expected in discussion threads when it comes to both the title of the thread and the OP. Maybe not officially but when it comes to the rest of us.

Hell, the secondary thread was started simply because the first thread was so lame.

So unless you - or anyone else for that matter - want infractions, please stick to the topic at hand, which is NOT the author of the thread or the syntax of its subject.

"los angels" is bad enough, but the fact he's confused this movie with Battlefield Earth too, I mean come on...
