I'm reminded of the Mason Verger character from Thomas Harris' novel Hannibal. In the book, he had no skin at all on his face and is described as being like a creature of the deep - all teeth and jaws, or something like that.
For the movie, it proved impossible to create that look (even though they pulled off the scene where Hannibal dined on the brains of the still living corrupt FBI man, played by Ray Liotta) so they had Verger with a skin graft over his face.
