TrekBBS banned my work

Indeed. I've tried the last 3 days. I honestly don't care that much; it's not like I need to be on the TrekBBS while I'm working. I just think it's funny.

This usually is true of proxy servers, to prevent people from registering untraceable dual accounts.

My first thought is that your place of work is routing through a proxy server.

My second thought is to wonder why would they need to be set up like this unless there are nefarious goings on?

Actually, there are occasional legitimate uses for a proxy at work - if I need to make sure that a client's website is accessible from outside our network, or to make sure that a change I'd made to the site is working correctly, I use one to check it. Similarly, if we have an outage, we like to check from outside the network to see if everything is back up. We have a machine at the back of the IT department that's not on the network that I could use for this purpose, but my desk is at the complete opposite end.

Admittedly, that doesn't explain why an entire company would be set up that way.

"To ban or not to ban; that is the question. Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous Bonz, or to take arms against a sea of mods, and by opposing, end them."

Or just get served by Justice T. Banhammer

It's probable that a past or current employee at your workplace was a TrekBBS troll.

Trolls aren't the only people who get banned. Incidentally, I applaud you for actually snagging the username "Aragorn" - I was just thinking today about how I'd like to change mine to Elessar since that's what I'm known by elsewhere.

Shouldn't you be working instead of surfing TrekBBS?

...
For what it's worth, I was on my lunch break when I tried to log in.

who cares. People need to get off their efficiency high horse. After college I had the most incredibly boring job as technical support for a network surveillance company. You know that Peter Gibbons line about doing 15 minutes of work a day? That about sums it up. I probably refreshed CNN 5,000 times a day.
