Fleet Captain
hey guys, i was thinking about this during my daily morning exercise program.
i know everyone here wants to see another Trek series. of course, the problem is there's zero interest from any of the TV execs who want high ratings. nobody's keen to invest in a show if it's going to turn out like SGU or even, ENT. hell, i wouldn't. so i thought about it and came up with the idea of turning star trek into PPV.
i've been doing research and in his 10 fights or so, pacqiao has generated over a million PPV buys for every fight. PPV's are $50 for standard, and $60-65 for HD. a million buys at $50 a piece? you do the math. not many other many events can generate close to that, but many still generate well over 500,000 buys for events held once or twice a month.
i know, it sounds strange at first because everyone thinks of PPV as exclusively belonging to combat sports. people might even say 'it's just star trek' but i was watching a doco on youtube where people dress up and others were shelling out thousands of dollars for pieces of star trek like worf's pony tail. ST has perhaps the most devoted of all fans of any show in history. the cult following is honestly, astonishing. even for TOS, which went off the air 40 years ago. who still talks about 'friends' or 'caroline in the city'? those shows had huge ratings in the 90's.
surely people would be willing to pay $50 for one really crisp, and well thought out movie length episode once a month. imagine watching a 'way of the warrior' or 'first contact' show each month.
after checking wiki it appears DS9 only cost $66million for the WHOLE show, and that was the most expensive Trek of all time. one ST PPV event could easily cover half of that.
i'd love to be a part of a petition to get something started.
