I wonder if this episode will suffer comparisons to the POTC films, especially since the fourth one is coming out roughly the same time.


Then again, this isn't the first time Doctor Who has done pirates....There's the old 60s serial known as The Smugglers and of course the Pirate Planet used some of the tropes of the genre.

The Episode that was Fourth was the episode written by Mark Gatiss and included the creepy dolls. That has been moved to Episode Nine.

The Episode that is now airing as Episode Three features pirates being menaced by a siren played by Lily Cole.

That's what Moffat said in Doctor Who Magazine. Of course, a more cynical person might think that they might have moved the pirate episode to take advantage of the pre-release buzz surrounding the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. But they wouldn't do that... would they?

Of course it doesn't. But since the opportunity is there they'd be fools not to take it.

Doctor Who often seems to have some coincidences with stuff that's out at the time. Take K-9 and R2-D2 for example, both were cute robot sidekicks at roughly the same time, although K-9 was first.
